Please pray for Firefighter Kilduff, his family and our Boston Brothers. Before he died on in the line of duty he saved a life earlier that shift on a technical rescue call, and also saved a firefighter’s life when he went into cardiac arrest earlier this year.

Members of the Kingsport Firefighters Association were proud to attend the annual golf tournament in Murfreesboro benefiting the Tennessee Firefighters Emergency Benefit Fund.

This event helps support Tennessee firefighters and their families during times of hardship and emergency, and we are honored to be a part of such a great cause alongside firefighters from across the state.

May is and in the fire service, this conversation is not optional. It is necessary.

Every day, our members carry the weight of what they see, hear, and experience on the job. The calls don’t stay on scene. They come home with us. And for too long, the culture has told firefighters to push through, stay quiet, and handle it on their own.

Tennessee is taking steps to change that.

The Dustin Samples Act stands as a meaningful step forward, ensuring firefighters have access to mental health resources, peer support, and the protections they deserve when they ask for help. It recognizes what we already know: mental health is just as critical as physical safety in this profession.

This month, we encourage every member to check in with your crew, your family, and yourself. Strength is not staying silent. Strength is speaking up, reaching out, and making sure your brothers and sisters are okay.

The Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association will continue to advocate for resources, protections, and a culture where no firefighter has to fight their battles alone.

If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to carry it by yourself.

Today marks an important step forward for the safety of Tennessee’s first responders and the communities we serve.

With the passage of Senate Bill 1900 / House Bill 2428 by Senator Paul Bailey and Kip Capley State Representative, Tennessee has taken a clear stand: assaults against firefighters, EMS personnel, and other first responders will not be tolerated in the line of duty. This legislation strengthens the penalties for those who choose to harm the very people who show up in moments of crisis to help others.

Every day, our members respond to emergencies without hesitation often entering unpredictable and dangerous situations. No one answering the call to serve should face violence simply for doing their job.

This bill is about accountability. It is about protection. And ultimately, it is about ensuring that those who protect Tennessee’s communities are protected in return.

The Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association thanks the members of the General Assembly who supported this legislation and stood with first responders across our state.

Senate Bill 1900 / House Bill 2428 now heads to the desk of Gov. Bill Lee for his signature.

We will always continue to advocate for policies that prioritize safety, strengthen our profession, and support those on the front lines.
