As most of you know, there was an incident involving several of our members as well as a member of our partner EMS agency. We have teamed up with Horizon Credit union to open an acct to help support them through their recovery! Anything you can give helps!

On September 20, three Kingsport firefighters and a Sullivan County EMS paramedic were struck by a vehicle while responding to an accident on I-26.

All four were hospitalized and have since been released, but recovery continues. They and their families are now facing medical bills and other expenses related to their injuries and recovery.

Horizon Credit Union serves many firefighters, EMS professionals and other first responders throughout our region. We would like to help these four individuals and their families.

Working with the Kingsport Firefighters Association, Horizon has established a First Responder Recovery Fund to assist all four responders injured in the accident. Horizon will contribute up to $1,000, and we are accepting additional donations from our members and the community.

All contributions will benefit the four injured first responders.

You can contribute in either of two ways:

1. Stop by any Horizon Credit Union branch and let us know you'd like to contribute to the First Responder Recovery Fund.

2. Mail a check payable to Kingsport Firefighters Association – Fund Drive Account to: 1201 North Eastman Road, Kingsport, TN 37664

Know the Warning Signs

⚠️ Your battery may be telling you something is wrong. Don’t ignore it!

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the things we use every day — phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes and more.

Watch for these warning signs:

🔋 Swelling or a change in shape
🔥 Excessive heat
👃 Strange odors
⚠️ Leaking or unusual noises
💨 Smoke or visible damage

If you notice any of these signs, stop using the device. If a battery is smoking or showing signs of fire, get everyone out and call 911.

During Fire Prevention Week, the Kingsport Firefighters Association reminds everyone that a little prevention can make a big difference.

🔌 Where do you charge your phone at night?

Charging your phone on your bed, under a pillow, or on the couch can trap heat and increase the risk of a fire.

Follow these simple safety tips:

🔋 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.
🔋 Use the manufacturer's recommended charger.
🔋 Keep charging devices away from blankets and other combustible materials.
🔋 Unplug devices when charging is complete.

A few small changes can make a big difference in keeping your family safe.

We are saddened to learn about Dolly Parton’s death. Dolly was a true example of a public servant. From her Imagination Library to her support of fire victims during the Gatlinburg wildfires she always came through for her community. Kingsport Firefighters Association members send our prayers to her family.

Danny has been a great leader in the entire IAFF organization! As our district vice president his name is respected by IAFF members, firefighters, fire chiefs and city leaders. You can always expect a well thought answer to your questions and a dedication to making sure firefighters are treated right and have safe working conditions.

We wanted to share a project that we are honored to play a small part of. Artist Leigh Ann Agee recently completed a mural featuring our KFA 2270's '29 American LaFrance. It is located at the Harvest Community on Cumberland in the childrens building. Special thanks to Debbie Bell for sharing!
