The monthly program of The Kingsport Historical Society will be held at 10am, Wednesday, November 19, at the Higher Education Center in Downtown Kingsport, 300 West Market.
In keeping with our focus on the history of Kingsport and the region surrounding our fair city we once again offer a review of early events that gradually built our community.
The Kingsport Historical Society will welcome our own Glenda Bobalik, a key member of Netherland Inn and the Boatyard Historical sites along the river near Rotherwood. This site is over 200 years old in developing
the history of Kingsport, stretching back to the formation of the state of Tennessee.
Ms. Bobalik will outline the origin of this site and its steady development until the end of the Civil War. It fell into a sleep with the development of a railroad through East Tennessee that grasped the passenger and freight business from the river. It was not until post World War Il that local citizens took a timely interest in this site. They refreshed it and its activities to an timely look at our early history.
Our speaker will outline the evolution of Netherland Inn and its connection with our area development.
Included in her presentation will be volunteers in "period costumes", poster board and rack cards advertising the Christmas Open House which occurs just before the holidays.
You can enjoy the beautiful natural decorations designed and provided by several Kingsport Garden Clubs along with background music in keeping with Christmas.
Come to our meeting and get a preview of a wonderful visit with Netherland Inn and all of its splendid feelings of over two hundred years of progressive history.
The volunteers and Glenda Bobalik will make "1818 Christmas at the Inn a turn back in time to our past.
This program will be introduction to the Christmas Season at Netherland Inn and many of the warm views and snacks that you can enjoy on December 5, 6 and 7 when the staff opens this treasure to you
and your friends.
Come and bring your family and friends to this timely entertainment, both as the program of our November 19" meeting and the follow up of the buildings and volunteers themselves in December. Netherland Inn is a gem in our regional history, one that we can savor in color, views and a look back at what things were like soon after Tennessee was introduced to the United States of America.
