GATE CITY, VA - Wilbur Craft, 92, of Gate City, VA passed away on Monday November 30, 2020.

Written by George Washington in 1789, this was the first official Presidential Proclamation made in the United States. Shortly after the Thanksgiving Proclamation was written, it was lost for 130 years. It was probably misplaced when the US Capitol moved from New York to Washington, D.C. It now resides in the Library of Congress. And it reads:
Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

****Notice from Grand Lodge of TN****
Brothers:
As we continue to navigate these very challenging and unprecedented times, we are all dealing with many issues such as cancelled meetings and keeping ourselves and our families safe and healthy. In order to protect our members your Grand Lodge officers have continued to follow all Federal, State, and Local guidelines pursuant to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have met regularly over the last six months to make sure we have the latest info on COVID-19 and are up to date on the local and federal laws to make sure we comply with all mandates.
Because COVID-19 prevented a 2020 Grand Lodge Session your grand line has been busy to ensure that there will be a 2021 Grand Lodge Session.
To date, we have created four scenarios for a 2021 Grand Lodge Session. Each scenario addresses the different COVID-19 Federal, State and Local Guidelines that will mandate how and when we can meet.
The scenarios address all Phases of the State mandates from Phase 4 (able to have a regular grand lodge session) to Phase 1 (not being able to meet in person).
Enclosed are the four scenarios that we have created. Each scenario is explained and will be based on the Federal, State, and/or local guidelines at the time of the Grand Lodge session in 2021.
These scenarios will allow us to plan and have some form of a Grand Lodge Session in 2021. Each scenario is predicated on what COVID-19 phase the State of Tennessee is at that time.
I, as your Grand Master, will make a decision as to which scenario we will be able to implement by February 1st, 2021.
Your Grand Lodge officers will conduct quarry meetings starting in January 2021 and will address questions at that time.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Robert T. Reed

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Brother Charlie Williams 33°.

Brother Charlie was our 2018 Scottish Rite Man of the Year, Director of the Stage Crew, and an Officer of the Knoxville Valley.

Albert Pike once said that “what we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”

Brother Charlie’s impact on our fraternity is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed.
