The Kingsland Masonic Lodge is proud to announce that Janie Shults has been named the recipient of the 2026 Community Builder Award. A formal presentation ceremony will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Lodge located at 900 Texas Avenue in Kingsland. The Community Builder Award is the highest honor a local Masonic Lodge can bestow upon a non-Mason. Established by the Grand Lodge of Texas, it recognizes individuals—from educators to local leaders—who exemplify outstanding, selfless service and make meaningful contributions to the betterment of society.

A Mission of Healing and Hope: This year’s honor recognizes Janie Shults for her tireless work in providing life-saving healthcare access to the Kingsland community. As a Stage 3 breast cancer survivor diagnosed at the age of 30, Janie has turned her personal journey into a mission of advocacy.

She has been instrumental in raising funds and coordinating free breast cancer screenings for women who otherwise lack access to regular mammograms. Through her partnership with the Kingsland Masonic Lodge, she has utilized their facilities to ensure these critical services are provided at no cost to local residents.

The public is warmly invited to attend the ceremony to congratulate Janie on this momentous occasion and celebrate her impact on the health and well-being of Kingsland.

The Golden Trowel Award has been presented to Marvin Gray of Kingsland Lodge.

The Golden Trowel Award, established by the Grand Lodge of Texas, is a prestigious honor bestowed upon Masons who have demonstrated outstanding and exemplary service to their Lodge and the community.

Purpose:
The award recognizes Masons for their consistent and outstanding service, both within their Lodge and in their community.
Establishment:
The Golden Trowel Award was established by the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1988.
Nomination Process:
To be considered, a Mason must be nominated by three Past Masters of their Lodge, and the Lodge must approve the nomination.
Award Presentation:
A Lodge may present up to two Golden Trowel Awards per year, but is not required to present the honor to anyone in any given year.
Significance:
The Golden Trowel is considered one of the highest honors a Texas Freemason can receive.
Origin of the Name
The idea for the award originated at "Armadillo Acres" the getaway home of Past Grand Master Leonard P. Harvey.
Award Presentation:
The award is presented in an open meeting at the lodge, with friends and family members of the recipient invited to attend.
