Today we led a guided hike at the Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area as part of Wisconsin's Invasive Species Awareness Weekend!
We explored the site and discussed how prescribed fire is used to manage invasive species and keep this disturbance-dependent habitat thriving for the unique and rare species found here.

Our executive director and WI Master Naturalist, Lindsay Peterson, will be hosting a guided hike at the Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area, where you can learn all about this unique ecosystem and how to protect it from invasive species!

📍 Where: Meet at the Chuckwagon Restaurant, caravan from there

Turtles are frequently crossing roadways this time of year, so we wanted to highlight our native Painted Turtle and the invasive Red-Eared Slider.
Remember, if you help a turtle cross the road, carry it across in the exact direction it was heading!

REMINDER: Our knapweed pull at the Kowalski Walking Trails was rescheduled for TOMORROW (Wednesday June 17th)!
This volunteer workday will help clear invasive knapweed from the Ed Kowalski Walking Trail system and is open to the public as a drop-in style workday - which means come and go as you are able! Every effort helps!
