Roots & Rivers Collaborative WRISC is a multi-partner organization created to effectively coordinate and implement management efforts of invasive species.

The Roots & Rivers Collaborative mission is to protect and enhance the environment of the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northeastern Wisconsin through habitat conservation via invasive species management, restoration, education, and outreach The WRISC management area includes: Florence, Forest, and Marinette counties in Wisconsin, and Dickinson and Menominee counties in Michigan.

Today we led a guided hike at the Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area as part of Wisconsin's Invasive Species Awareness Weekend!
We explored the site and discussed how prescribed fire is used to manage invasive species and keep this disturbance-dependent habitat thriving for the unique and rare species found here.

Join us to celebrate Wisconsin's Invasive Species Awareness Weekend!

Our executive director and WI Master Naturalist, Lindsay Peterson, will be hosting a guided hike at the Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area, where you can learn all about this unique ecosystem and how to protect it from invasive species!

📆 Date: Saturday June 20th, 2026
🕘 Time: 9:30am to 11:30am
📍 Where: Meet at the Chuckwagon Restaurant, caravan from there

🆓 This is event is free and open to the public

As part of our new brand rollout we have launched our merchandise fundraiser through bonfire! We have several awesome shirts and sweatshirts available and a portion of each sale directly supports our organization - specifically helping fund our nonprofit transition but also helping support our youth education programming throughout our five-county region!

REMINDER: Our knapweed pull at the Kowalski Walking Trails was rescheduled for TOMORROW (Wednesday June 17th)!
This volunteer workday will help clear invasive knapweed from the Ed Kowalski Walking Trail system and is open to the public as a drop-in style workday - which means come and go as you are able! Every effort helps!
