The Depot is open today for the Car Show, and SP Locomotive #1238 gets its number board back!

Today, 4/18/2026, Car Show day in Kingsburg, 1238 proudly sports its original number board, not seen in 70 years! Found in the dusty recesses of an old Fresno warehouse, the number board has now been cleaned up and reinstalled on the smoke box door by volunteer Jared Kliewer. Jared and his crew also gave 1238 a complete wash and shine yesterday to prepare it for the Show today. The number board will be in place today only as 1238 continues with a year long cosmetic restoration and reinstallation of all its missing parts. Southern Pacific 1918 Locomotive #1238 moving video produced by Laurie Bolton from events taking place on Monday, January 12, 2026. On that date, Friends of the Historic Kingsburg Depot (FHKD) moved #1238 to its new home at the Historic Kingsburg SP Depot where it often worked before retirement in 1956. #1238 was displayed in Fresno's Roeding Park for 70 years and was donated to FHKD by the City of Fresno in 2022. The Locomotive will be cosmetically restored and used in the Depot's Leon S. Peters educational living history reenactment programs benefitting the public and San Joaquin Valley students from public, private and home schools. FHKD thanks the City of Fresno and the many donors and volunteers that made this Project #1238 possible.

Our next board meeting is the “Annual Business Meeting” when nominations for officers will close and elections held. The meeting will take place on Monday, January 19 at 5:30pm in the Depot freight room.

The trucking company was Dirt & Iron Inc. from Kingsburg along with Diamond B Trucking LLC from Chowchilla. Thank you to Rob Ferreira for your expertise in hauling these to our Depot. 🚂
