Tickets for the 36th annual Chocolate and W**e Festival are going fast! Join us Saturday, October 24 for an evening of local chocolate, great w**e, live music, and amazing company, all in support of our neighbors here in North Tahoe and Truckee.

This year’s theme is Ripple Effect: Making Waves of Change. Every ticket helps fund the programs that keep families fed, housed, safe, and supported all year long. One night, a lot of impact.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we want our community to know that our housing and survivor support services are open to all in North Tahoe and Truckee.

We're also shining a light on immigrant survivors. For many, finding a stable place to live can be one of the biggest barriers to leaving. Abusers may use threats about immigration status to keep them in the relationship. Once they do leave, finding work without documentation is hard, and cash-only wages make it tough to show proof of income for a rental.

In our latest blog, Housing Coordinator Denisse Vega Zarate (pictured) shares how our advocates help, from housing navigation to building trust with local landlords.

Sierra Community House supports Measure P. 🍎 Since 1989, local voters have approved a parcel tax that helps TTUSD keep great teachers, manage class sizes, and offer programs that prepare kids for college and careers. That funding is set to expire. Measure P is not a new tax. It renews local school funding, and every dollar stays in Tahoe Truckee schools.

Recent news has reignited a national conversation about sexual assault. If it brings up hard feelings for you or someone you love, you're not alone.

Telling someone about a sexual assault takes real courage. Many survivors carry shame that was never theirs to carry. They may blame themselves, worry about not being believed, or feel like they should have done something differently. Those feelings can keep people silent for weeks, months, or years.

If that's you, please know this: what happened was not your fault. Your story matters, whenever and however you choose to share it. And if you've shared only part of it so far, that's okay too.

Survivors deserve to be met with belief, patience, and care. They deserve support that lets them go at their own pace and make their own choices.

It's never too late to reach out. Sierra Community House offers free, confidential support for survivors of sexual violence in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, including low-barrier peer support, referrals to no-cost therapy, and support groups. Our advocates are here 24/7, whenever you're ready.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Domestic violence can happen to anyone. This month is about raising awareness, supporting survivors, and reminding our community that help is available.

We're kicking off the month by celebrating four of our advocates: Yvette, Stephanie, Karla, and Daniella. They just completed the Victim Assistance Academy of Nevada, a three-month training that helps them better support survivors on both sides of the state line.
