🇺🇸The Patriot Golf Club🇺🇸

Owasso, OK

Architect: Robert Trent Jones, Jr. (2010)

Par 72, Rating 74.3/Slope 130, 7158 yards

Private

Sitting 700 feet above sea level, The Patriot is the product of a chance meeting between Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, founder of The Folds of Honor Foundation, and David Charney, Co-Developer of the Stone Canyon Development. The Patriot is a refuge from daily life, a place of tranquility that promotes reflection on that which is most important. This is best exemplified at 1300 hours, when activity stops honor those who sacrifice on our behalf. While not a military base golf course, founder Lt. Col. Dan Rooney is an American hero and this club has a profound sense of patriotism.
The Patriot was built to be bold and test a player's skill and resolve. True to the natural contours of the land, golfers experience 7,158 yards of Oklahoma's lowland marshes, mature woodlands, upland parries, and dramatic limestone canyons. The first hole, “George Washington,” offers an opening tee shot that drops 130 feet to the fairway. The routing makes its way through streams and exposed rock until returning to higher elevation on the 6th hole. The 432-yard par 4 18th hole, named “Dwight Eisenhower,” is a tough finishing challenge played along a steep canyon. Also home to one of the largest American flags in the country off the 17th hole, The Patriot is a bucket list golf experience for those that have the opportunity.

Par 72, Rating 72.0/Slope 124, 6300 yards

Fort Buchanan, "Sentinel of the Caribbean," is the only federal military installation in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The linkage between the history of Fort Buchanan and the history of the U.S. Army in Puerto Rico dates back to the 19th century during the Spanish-American War, the creation of the Porto Rico Regiment of Infantry and its first commander, Brigadier General James Anderson Buchanan, after whom the military installation was named. Located in the metropolitan area of San Juan, the course also features one of the finest little golf courses. This 9-hole walking course dates to the 1920s, and it is routed such that golfers play it twice for a satisfying 18-hole round. Golfers can access the base with a pre-booked tee time, and it’s a popular pastime for cruise ship passengers given the nearby port. Located near the Bacardí factory on the northeastern coast, the course is picturesque and tropical. Holes #4 and #5 run alongside each other across the side of the base with some fun approaches. Water is only in play on 2/9 holes, but the plentiful bunkering protects the small greens on all nine. The palm trees surrounding the fairways and greens make for a pleasant walk in paradise. 🏌🏽‍♂️

New blog is live! We wrote about Earl Woods & the military roots behind Tiger’s success 🏆

🪖 Earl served two combat tours in Vietnam, including a a tour with the Green Berets.

🏌🏽‍♂️ Earl understood the correlation between golf & military strategy, teaching Tiger how to approach the game with calculated precision.

📚 The Earl Woods’ Scholarship Program supports high-potential students with a demonstrated need & a commitment to community service.

The Pines Golf Course is a lovely little 24 hole facility. The Virginia and Ponderosa nines make up the challenging 18 holes of championship golf that stretches nearly 7000 yds from the tips, and the 6 hole Shortleaf course offers a good time for everyone.

The Pines Golf Course is one of the finest military golf course layouts in the country. Located at U.S. Army base Fort Eustis, beautiful fairways lined with pine trees and strategically placed water hazards and bunkers offers one of the best championship experiences in the area. Especially in the fall, The Pines is peak Virginia golf. The layout is a traditional George Cobb design, attractive, playable, and walkable. It’s relatively flat and open, but the Bent grass green complexes are fun and can be challenging if dried out. The doglegs can make things interesting, and there are some pot bunkers throughout that you need to watch out for. The signature holes are #3- #5, as the pines, the pond, and the river frame the holes in a serene setting. If you appreciate classic, playable architecture, The Pines Golf Course at Fort Eustis is worthy of a visit.

🚨🥇 They did it! Si Woo Kim & Sungjae Im won Gold in team golf at the 2023 Asian Games. The gold medal - as we wrote about on our blog last month - will exempt the pair from South Korea’s 21 month mandatory military service.

Sungjae after winning Gold: “This has been the longest four days of my career. Every hole felt so important, and I knew every shot counted for our team event. I wanted to fight for every shot and do the best I could until the finish."

This was the first year professionals were allowed to compete, and they made it count. A heartfelt congratulations to Si Woo & Sungjae 💪

Veterans Memorial Golf Course, formerly known as Willow Glen, has been around for more than seven decades as a staple Navy golf course. For a long time, the course was reserved only for military personnel but is now open to the public. The course is relatively flat, but two creeks, five ponds, 47 bunkers, and more than 50 willow trees provide a most effective challenge on this par-71 layout. There are four sets of tees measuring 6637 / 6184 / 5512 / 5006 yards. The course is relatively flat but rolling, with natural and prairie areas, and features a traditional parkland design on the front nine and a modern links style on the back nine. The signature par 4 #10 hole plays slightly uphill and usually into the prevailing west wind; standing on the 10th tee, golfers become visually aware of a hardwood tree in the middle of the fairway at roughly the 200-yard marker, and later must cross a creek at approximately the 150-yard marker, finally reaching a two-tiered green guarded by a right greenside bunker and a pond to the left. 🇺🇸🏌🏽‍♂️

The Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is the east coast home to Trident nuclear-powered submarines and sustains and supports warfighter readiness - tucked a few miles inside the base in rural, coastal Georgia sits the fittingly-named Trident Lakes Golf Course. An enormous naval submarine sitting halfway in the earth greets you as you enter the base. The golf course sits on a gorgeous 220-acre property with lakes and pine and palm trees throughout, beautifully designed by well-known East coast architect Arthur Hills. The course has four distinct areas as it weaves through the base, with water in play on ten holes. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens are kept in pristine condition throughout the seasons. The signature par 3 13th hole is 217 yards with water all along the right side and a well-protected bean-shaped green. The 15th hole might be the best hole on the course, with a tee shot that rewards the closer you hug the water on the left side. The approach is over a hard left over a creek to a well-protected, thin oval green. The 18th hole is a fun finishing par 5 at 544 yards with water up the left and bunkers up the right, all the way to the clubhouse. With fantastic maintenance, architecture, and atmosphere, Trident Lakes is arguably one of the better Navy golf courses on the East coast. 🇺🇸🏌🏽‍♂️
