LAST CHANCE TO AUDITION! Introducing “Jazzed” ✨ Jazzed! Is an original musical written by Maci Steffen, a 15 year old playwright who’s been working on the show since March of 2026. Maci loves writing and already has one original play performed at the Beale Street Theater under her belt from last year’s student playwright showcase with “Maybe: The Tragedy of a Homeschooled Dreamer.” She was encouraged by her mother not to make another tragedy this year, so Jazzed goes in a very different (and comedic!) direction. We’d be jazzed to have you audition Friday September 25th 10am-12pm!
About the musical: It’s autumn of 1943 in Germany, and two young women, Angelika and Elke, are trying to make a living performing in a basement jazz bar (The Sturmfrei) to a small crowd of swing youth. To say the least, they’re struggling to gain respect in the swing youth community and their audience remains underwhelming until an American man named Floyd stumbles into the bar, hiding from N***s. They use him as their claim to fame, drawing in curious crowds and even a Russian spy. Come audition for Jazzed this Friday the 25th, and if you can’t try out, come see the show in January!
