Please enjoy learning about this special tradition:
πΌ DΓa de los Mu***os: A Celebration of Life and Memory π
Traditionally, on November 1st & 2nd, families across Mexico and other parts of Latin America come together to celebrate DΓa de los Mu***osβthe Day of the Dead. (First Fridays will celebrate on 11/7)
Itβs not spooky or scary like Halloween. Instead, itβs a beautiful tradition that honors loved ones whoβve passed away with love, food, music, and memories.
Families build colorful altars (called ofrendas) decorated with candles, marigolds, photos, sugar skulls, and favorite foods of those theyβre remembering. The idea is that for a brief time, the spirits of loved ones return to visit, and theyβre welcomed with everything they loved in life.
Itβs joyful, meaningful, and deeply rooted in honoring ancestry and the cycles of life. πΊ
One of the beautiful things about DΓa de los Mu***os is how it reminds us that so many cultures around the world have special ways of honoring those whoβve passed. ποΈ
In Japan, thereβs Obon, a summer festival where families welcome the spirits of their ancestors with lanterns and dances. In parts of West Africa, funerals are vibrant celebrations of life. In Poland, people visit cemeteries with candles on All Saintsβ Day. π«
Grief and remembrance look different everywhereβbut that shared need to remember, to celebrate, and to stay connected? Thatβs universal. π
Do you or your family have a tradition or story around remembering loved ones? We would love to hear about it. β€οΈ
