Kingman Concert Band
Spotlight on Members
Sherri Block, Clarinet
Kingman Concert Band’s longtime clarinetist, Sherri Block, got her musical start early in life, and she’s never stopped creating peaceful harmony over the years. Like most, Sherri started her musical career in fifth grade and proceeded to perform in many high school ensembles & played for a few years in the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Wind Ensemble. She expanded her musical understanding to the bassoon at one point. Having played with the local orchestra, Sherri found her way to our community band. Only having time for one group, she’s landed a lasting gig with the Kingman Concert Band. In addition to her role as community band musician, Sherri has served on the non-profit organization’s Board of Directors, and is Kingman Concert Band’s President-Elect for 2026-2028.
She chose the clarinet because she wanted to be like her sister. Sherri credited her sister for helping her navigate her way to music. “My sister spent a lot of time helping me and gave me a strong foundation for success – in music and beyond,” said Block.
Sherri reflected on her musical journey, sharing, “I cherish performing alongside other musicians and being part of something bigger than myself. Those shared moments of connection through music have been the most meaningful experiences.”
Sherri encourages everyone at any age to find ways to enjoy music. She believes that learning a musical instrument has a profound effect on the brain; improving memory, hand coordination, and builds confidence. The wife of a fifth grade teacher, Sherri sees that music is a viable vehicle to integrate with all subject areas. “Music creates a sense of belonging and connection, sometimes for a lifetime,” she commented. Her smiling face at every Kingman Concert Band rehearsal says it all.
Her creativity extends beyond music; as the founder and owner of Wood Workz, this talented artisan is the Featured Artist for the 2026 Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club of the Arts. Visit Sherri during the festival on May 9-10th at Metcalfe Park in downtown Kingman.
This busy lady is also looking forward to Kingman Concert Band's "Lights, Camera, Action" Free Concert on Sunday, May 3rd 2:00 P.M. in the Kingman High School Auditorium (4182 N. Bank Street). The performance is free and open to the public. Come on out to cheer on Sherri Hannes Block & her musical friends!
