Willa's Counseling Session with Dreamer

Some horses need a little extra encouragement.
Dreamer decided the ground was the perfect place to spend the evening, and Willa was more than willing to wait him out. No barking. No rushing. No judgment. Just sitting quietly beside her friend until he was ready.

As one of the barn's unofficial counselors, Willa understands that sometimes the best support is simply being present.

Day 5 of Horsemanship 101 Summer camp came to an end, we had a great group of kids and voluteer staff.
We have a very informative, hands on, learning program, with many plates being juggled.

The camp grows every year, which encourages us to find new and exciting information and ways to teach.

Parents, thank you for entrusting us with your child. We look forward to seeing you in lessons and/or at camp next year.

Before the horses start their day, the staff meeting begins.

Our Barn Manager and Rodent Control Specialist hold their 6 a.m. strategy session to discuss important topics like barn security, breakfast schedules, and unauthorized mouse activity.

One takes the job seriously. The other is wondering if breakfast is included in the meeting.

Horse Camp Day 4
Healthy horses don't happen by accident.

Daily husbandry care is one of the most important parts of horse ownership and horse management. Each day we monitor water consumption, inspect manure for normal consistency, look for signs of digestive problems, check for injuries, and assess overall health.

Changes in manure, water intake, or behavior can be early warning signs of health concerns. Conditions such as enteroliths, which are mineralized stones that form in the large colon, often begin with subtle symptoms that attentive horse care helps identify early.
Before any riding lesson, training session, or equine-assisted activity, our horses receive a thorough wellness check.

Like, follow, and share Kingman's Healing Hooves. Every view helps support the horses that make these programs possible.

We worked on saddling the horses, walking on the ground and skills from the saddle.

Raised alongside our miniature horses, Titus grew up believing he was part of the herd. Years later, he's still hanging out with his horse friends and living his best life.

Day 2 of Horsemanship 101 Summer Camp focused on one of the most important lessons in riding: how horse and rider bodies work together.

To help campers understand proper rider position and horse movement, both the rider and horse wore skeleton suits. This visual demonstration showed how the horse's skeletal system supports movement and how rider position directly affects balance, comfort, and performance.

Students learned that riding is much more than sitting in the saddle. Every movement a rider makes influences the horse. Good position helps the horse move freely, stay comfortable, and perform at its best. Poor position can create confusion, imbalance, and unnecessary strain.

After the anatomy lesson, campers practiced handling horses on the ground and applied these concepts during their riding session. Understanding how horse and rider move together builds safer, more effective partnerships and stronger horsemanship skills.

At Kingman’s Healing Hooves, we teach students to understand the horse before asking the horse to understand them.

"Hold me back!"

Protecting Horses Is a Full-Time Job

Willa, our German Shepherd, takes her job at Kingman's Healing Hooves very seriously. Her mission is simple: protect the horses, protect the kids, and keep the local feral cats off the property.
The only problem? She forgot the gate she walked through was wide open.

Willa was locked in on her target and completely committed to barn security duties. Thankfully, her determination is much stronger than her attention to details.

Every barn needs a good guard dog, and Willa proudly serves as head of security and barn manager.

Follow Kingman's Healing Hooves for more horse, ranch, and barn life adventures.
