Last night, K.F.D. conducted training on several critical skills designed to improve firefighter and civilian rescue operations.

One of the primary training objectives focused on downed firefighter rescue. This training teaches members how to quickly and efficiently remove a downed firefighter from a structure and move them to a safe location where awaiting personnel can provide assistance. Once outside the structure, firefighters practice rapidly removing the downed member’s gear and conducting an assessment to determine the need for medical treatment.

Members also trained on single-firefighter victim removal through a window. This technique allows one firefighter to use a victim’s body position and weight to safely assist them through a window and out of a structure. Training on this skill is essential, as situations involving fire and other hazards may require victims to be removed from a structure as quickly and safely as possible.

Regularly practicing these skills helps ensure K.F.D. members are prepared to respond effectively during high-stress emergencies and provide the highest level of care and assistance to those in need.

Some members of the community may have noticed Quint 12 positioned behind the Fire Station recently with its aerial ladder fully extended. Quint 12 was undergoing its annual aerial inspection in accordance with NFPA 1911, the standard for the inspection, maintenance, testing, and retirement of automotive fire apparatus.

This annual inspection is required at least once every year to help ensure the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of the apparatus. During the inspection, trained technicians examine critical components of the aerial device, including welds, bolts, rotation gears, cables, and other structural components.

The inspection also includes testing the hydraulic systems, stabilizers, safety interlocks, and the overall operation and movement of the aerial device. One of the most important portions of the testing is verifying that the aerial can safely support its maximum rated tip load without structural or mechanical failure.

Regular inspections and testing are essential to ensuring that Quint 12 remains ready to respond when our community needs it most. The safety of our firefighters and the public depends on having apparatus that is properly maintained, thoroughly inspected, and operating as designed.

Yesterday was undoubtably busy for Kingman Fire. By the end of the day the firefighters were extremely exhausted. Thank you to the all the wonderful people that brought drinks and food to the scene for the Firefighters, and especially thank you to the Kingman resident that called 911 as soon as they saw smoke in the home. We are so blessed to have such a strong community that stops everything at a moments notice and wants to help others.

Over the next several days, the heat is still supposed to be over 100 degrees. Please make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

💪💪

Over the next several days, try to limit outside activities and stay hydrated drinking plenty of water.
