The Queen Bees completed three service projects in 2025, but one really stood out from the others! What started out as just a "see a need, fill a need" request found on Facebook for the First Shamrock Care Center in Kingfisher, turned into a major step of leadership for the newest club in Kingfisher! It opened up an avenue for people to fill needed, valued, connected, and as though they had a purpose in life - no matter their age or health status.
When club President, Dr. Ashley Cowan Neal called to inquire about what was needed and allowed in the facility, she was told that most of the residents were previously homeless or incarcerated. Once this was presented to the club, Aletha said something to the effect, "Well, we should give them something nicer than just clothes and undergarments!"🤣
The Queen Bees flew into action! For two months the Queen Bees gathered and donated a ton of items including two beautifully crocheted scarves and a pillow (made by Amy Tollison), a custom screen-printed sweatshirt that one of Pam Wittrock's daughters made, clothes, coats, blankets, socks, undergarments, and bathroom & hygiene products. Two of the club members, Linda Britton and Aletha Bengs, went above and beyond and donated a total of seven 30-gallon trash bags full of clothes, etc. just themselves!
But the giving did not stop there! Aletha and Linda took it upon themselves to make this quest even nicer! They ordered materials and hand made the residents and staff all a little potted succulent to brighten up their spaces! Each had a unique plant and individual pot! They made and delivered 57 little artificial plants (40 for the residents and 17 for the staff members)!! They enjoyed the project so much (well, minus cutting the green foam out) that they also made one for all of the Queen Bees too!
We couldn't be prouder of our busy Queen Bees and the positive impact that they are making in our community tending to the Kingfisher hives!!
