Thank you, thank you, thank you!

At the March 18th Town Meeting, Carrabassett Valley voters approved a zoning amendment that allows WMMH to move forward with workforce housing. Voters also approved approximately $140,000 from the TIF account to support water and sewer infrastructure for the project.

With these approvals, we’re preparing to submit plans for a workforce housing development on Bigelow Hill, on land generously donated by Weyerhaeuser. The project will include apartments, duplexes, and single-family homes.

This is a big step toward making sure the people who live and work here can continue to call Carrabassett Valley home.

There’s more work ahead, but this strong show of support moves us forward in a big way. Follow along for more updates and thank you again!

We are very pleased to announce that WHHH recently signed a purchase and sale agreement with Weyerhaeuser, Inc., for approximately 20 acres of property for the construction of workforce housing. The land is located on the left, heading towards Eustis just beyond Caribou Pond Road. Finding suitable land has been WMMH greatest challenge. We appreciate Weyerhaeuser’s understanding of this challenge and their generosity in providing this land at a sale price of $10. Much work remains to be done before anything is built, including a change in the Town’s zoning but having land is a major accomplishment. Thank you, Weyerhaeuser!

Our Board of Directors met this morning to discuss yesterday's failed Kingfield vote. We are exploring all of our options, but you can be assured that we will continue to work to create workforce housing in our region. We appreciate all the support we received from Kingfield residents and the work many of you did to help advance our proposal. Thank you!

You will hear more from us as we regroup and get back to work. Wishing you all the best.

Kingfield friends, please go to the town office tomorrow, Tuesday March 5 (8am-8pm) and Vote Yes for Housing! Please tell your neighbors how a simple yes vote on the local zoning ballot will allow us to move forward with a constructive solution to the lack of affordable housing in our community. Thank you for helping us make it happen!

Polly Mac doesn’t just roll the fattest burritos in town, she also made things happen as selectperson in Kingfield, years ago taught at Kingfield Elementary, and many years before that attended Mrs. Meldrum's nursery school in the building she now owns at 268 Main St. She and her partner Rob MacMichael, have brought energy (and tax revenue) to the center of town with their restaurant and bar Rolling Fatties. Thanks, guys! And thanks for these thoughts on our housing plans:

“There are no affordable houses to buy in Kingfield. There are no apartments for rent in Kingfield. There are jobs available in town, there are opportunities for new businesses in town, and there are openings in our school. Kingfield's current (2007) comprehensive plan highlights the need for workforce housing development and the current proposal from WMMH meets the location criteria for this development. We have an organization of experienced and motivated people working with our town officials to bring a solution to the regional housing issue to Kingfield. Let's support this housing project and see what happens. A little (just a little!) growth and prosperity in Kingfield might be good for us!”
