Laurel House Executive Director, Stacy Dougherty (pictured with A Woman's Place Executive Director Jen Locker), recently joined PCAR and Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence's "United for Survivors" rally and press conference in Harrisburg.

Advocates and survivors highlighted the urgent need for increased funding for domestic violence and sexual assault services, which have faced years without meaningful financial support. This lack of funding has strained programs and limited resources for survivors across Pennsylvania.

Although the rally has ended, Laurel House remains dedicated to advocating for survivors and ensuring these essential services continue.

The celebration of Juneteenth began in Galveston, Texas in the 1860s. Now, many Americans throughout the country honor this day. In addition to being a day of celebration and hope, it is also a day to remember and honor the many people who suffered under slavery. We at Laurel House believe it’s incredibly important to remember, honor, and celebrate this momentous occasion as we continue to fight for freedom and equality for everyone.

We were honored to attend Montgomery County's annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony!

Supporting survivors means showing up for the communities we serve. This upcoming Juneteenth reminds us that freedom and safety are fundamental rights, and we recognize that barriers to safety and support can disproportionately affect Black survivors.

We value opportunities to listen, learn, and strengthen our connections within the community. We are grateful to stand alongside our community as we continue working toward a future where everyone can live free from violence and fear.

Did you know approximately 1 in 10 adults age 60 and older have experienced some form of elder abuse each year?

Many cases go unreported, making the true scope of the problem difficult to measure.

Elder abuse and intimate partner violence in later in life (IPVILL) often go hand in hand. The methods of abuse and consequences on survivors' lives are very similar. Elder abuse and intimate partner violence in later life can take many forms, including neglect, isolation, physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse.

Although elder abuse shares many characteristics with domestic violence, it is often more complex due to factors such as caregiver dependency, declining health, seniors' inability or reluctance to leave unsafe situations, and limited availability of services and resources specifically designed to support older adults.

This , we encourage our community to check in on older loved ones and learn the signs of elder abuse. No one deserves to experience harm, isolation, or fear at any age.
