Teach them why we do this. Not for fun, not a hobby, not even a sport. It's life, it's how it works, in order for something to live, something has to die. Maybe its the field mouse minding his own business gathering seeds when his life is cut short by the tallons of a Horned Owl, maybe it's the thousands of Deer every year because hunters want the meat, maybe it's the anti hunter with millions of dead insects on their windshield burning fuel to go pick up their meat that grows on isle 9... Or maybe it was the Coyote in our South Calving lot.
Teach them young, so they grow up strong, hard, with an understanding, respect and responsibility of our actions.

Scouting was a huge part of turning my son into the wonderful man he is today. Unfortunately, Covid and job changes left the Kimball Scouts and Cubs without Leadership. If you would like to get your child into Scouts, they are in desperate need of a Scout Master. Having a child in Scouting is not a prerequisite. If you are interested, please contact Boy Scouts of America. They will teach you everything you need to know to be an integral part in turning children into well rounded adults.

Scouting is fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

If you learn to recognize only one plant, it should be this evil critter. This tall plant with fern-like leaves and flat umbrella-shaped (umbel) clusters of small yellow flowers is none other than wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa). A cocktail of phytophototoxic chemicals are found in all of the green parts of the plant. These chemicals, when in contact with skin and exposed to sunlight, cause painful and long-lasting blisters. Trust me. Not only does this plant cause severe blisters, it is also invasive and is taking over prairies, parks, and roadsides across the country. Learn to recognize this botanical villain and keep your distance.
