SOLAS TAKES THE STAGE THIS SATURDAY!

The wait is almost over! This Saturday, October 17, at 7:30pm, we welcome the internationally acclaimed Irish-American band Solas to the beautiful new Lancaster High School Auditorium & Performing Arts Center!

Get ready for an incredible evening of traditional Irish music, extraordinary musicianship, and the infectious energy that has made Solas one of the most celebrated Celtic bands in the world. When Solas takes the stage on October 17, they’ll be joined by award-winning Irish fiddle player, singer and step dancer Eimear Arkins!
Originally from County Clare, Ireland, Eimear is an extraordinary performer and she has the awards to prove it. She holds an impressive 11 solo All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil titles in traditional Irish music and has performed around the world with acclaimed groups including Cherish the Ladies, Téada and The Paul Brock Band.

MEET SOLAS
Did you know that Solas began in New York City in 1995 and went on to become one of the most acclaimed Irish-American bands of its generation? Even their name tells part of the story, “Solas” means “light” in Irish.

And here’s another surprise: founding member Séamus Egan co-wrote the music that became Sarah McLachlan’s hit “I Will Remember You,” while fiddler Winifred Horan is an All-Ireland champion fiddler and award-winning Irish step dancer. For more than 30 years, Solas has taken the traditions of Irish music and given them a fresh, energetic sound, mixing fiddle, flute, whistle, accordion, guitar and vocals with influences from folk, bluegrass and Americana.

This is an amazing group of musicians, and seeing Solas live is something special. We can’t wait to welcome them to the Northern Neck!

BEHIND THE MUSIC: THE 1920'S HARPSICHORD
If you were with us for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s Opening Night performance, you may have noticed a very special instrument on stage, a harpsichord dating to the 1920s.
Before the concert, this nearly century-old instrument was carefully tuned and prepared for the evening’s performance. Unlike a piano, its strings are plucked rather than struck, creating the distinctive bright, delicate sound associated with Baroque music.
The harpsichord played an important role in Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, providing part of the harmonic foundation for music written more than 300 years ago.

A look behind the scenes before the curtain went up on RFA’s Opening Night! The Virginia Symphony Orchestra trucks arrived, equipment was unloaded, chairs and instruments filled the stage, and our production team worked through the afternoon preparing lights, sound and all the final details.
Hours of preparation went into creating what the audience experienced that evening. Then everything was in place, the house lights dimmed and the music began.
And now we’re getting ready to do it all again! Next up: SOLAS, Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 PM. Another great night of live music is coming to the Lancaster High School Auditorium & Performing Arts Center!

WOW! WHAT AN OPENING NIGHT!
What an incredible evening for the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts! Our 2026–27 On Stage season began Saturday night with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra performing on the stage of the beautiful new Lancaster High School Auditorium & Performing Arts Center.
Seeing the auditorium filled with friends, neighbors and supporters of the arts made this milestone even more special. After years of anticipation, our community came together to experience this remarkable new venue as it was meant to be experienced with outstanding live music on its stage and an enthusiastic audience in its seats.
Our sincere thanks to the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Eric Jacobsen, violinist Simone Porter, VSO musicians and everyone who joined us for this unforgettable first night. A special thank you to the Lancaster County Virginia Sheriff's Office and Deputy Hess for being with us throughout the evening and providing traffic control to help everyone arrive and depart safely.
What a way to begin a new season and a new era for the performing arts in the Northern Neck.

OPENING NIGHT AND WE ARE READY TO WELCOME YOU!
The Playbills are printed, the stage is completed, and the excitement is building! Tomorrow night, we officially open the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts’ 2026–2027 On Stage season with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in the beautiful new Lancaster High School Auditorium & Performing Arts Center.

Haven’t purchased your tickets yet? There’s still time! A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase in the lobby before the performance, so come join us for this very special evening.

And come early! Join us at 6:30 PM for a special Pre-Show Talk with Virginia Symphony Orchestra conductor Eric Jacobsen, followed by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 PM, featuring acclaimed violinist Simone Porter.

We are excited to welcome you to our beautiful new Lancaster High School Auditorium & Performing Arts Center for our second show featuring Solas on Saturday, October 17!

The main entrance to Lancaster High School is located on Old St. Johns Road which is also the entrance to the Hills Quarter development. Look for RFA lawn signs and balloons to help guide you.

Once on the school campus, you may turn left into the first parking area or continue along the road to the fourth entrance on your right to access the main parking lot.

Accessible parking is available in the front row of the main parking lot, closest to the school and Performing Arts Center.

RFA signs and balloons will also mark the parking entrances, making it easy to find your way.
