In recognition of Earth Day, residents of Killingworth are invited to help make a difference at the upcoming Community Cleanup Day Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 9AM to Noon. Everyone’s welcome!

The event is centered just outside the Killingworth Transfer Station at Recycle Way, where volunteers can gather supplies and connect with fellow community members before heading out to beautify roadways, parks, and shared spaces. The Killingworth Lions will provide free gloves, sturdy trash bags, beverages, and snacks to ensure participants have everything they need. Lions can assist participants with getting filled bags into the Compactor site too.

Adding to the spirit of service, local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will again be actively participating, and demonstrating their commitment to community stewardship & environmental responsibility. Their involvement highlights the importance of engaging youth in meaningful service projects.

“This is a great opportunity for neighbors to come together, meet one another, and take collective action to keep Killingworth clean and welcoming” and continued, “Even a few hours of volunteering can have a lasting impact” Lion President Dave Beaudette shared.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate, whether individually, with family, or as part of a group. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. For more information or to get involved, please contact the Killingworth Lions at [email protected]

This Community Cleanup Day is part of Lions International’s Environmental "Week of Service" (April 18–26). Lions around the world have been mobilizing to protect the environment, promote sustainability, and strengthen communities. The Killingworth event reflects this broader mission—a global movement of service dedicated to caring for our planet.

Note: No rain in forecast so "We're On!"

And...Remember Saturday is also Drug Takeback Day and the Killingworth Family Pharmacy is hosting on Saturday with YFS & Troop F! Please check your home for expired or unused drugs (pet scripts too!).

Every February the Lions have their annual chili cook-off competition with their membership and invited guests. This year the Lions were hosted by the High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center in Old Lyme, CT where Lions members, District Leaders and guests were welcomed with open arms. The Killingworth Lions Club provides a donation to support a Killingworth resident to attend their special equestrian programs that help individuals with disabilities. We received a tour by H.H. Executive Director Missy Lamont and a working member, Michael Fox which was very informative.

As to bragging rights, this year's chili champ went to Lion Greg Wind and second place went Lion "Partner in Service" Beth Brewer. It was a great night and thanks to all who attended and supported this event.

The Killingworth Lions are grateful to everyone who supported our recent Holiday Food Drives to benefit the Helping Hands Food Pantry and shine a light on food insecurity. Thanks to your contributions, the Lions collected 1,217 pounds of food and a generous amount of monetary donations. Our donors went above and beyond, and we cannot thank you enough for your kindness and willingness to help neighbors in need.

Killingworth is a small town of about 6,300 residents, yet the need for food still exists. Many of the people who use the Transfer Station and several donors shared heartfelt stories of growing up on the receiving end of a food pantry.

We are also thankful for the enthusiastic help of the local Girl Scouts, who partnered with the Lions Club and brought energy, compassion, and commitment to this effort. Plus a special thank you to the staff at the Transfer Station who assisted behind the scenes. Their positive support played an important role in the success of the drive.

This effort was a reminder that community generosity can make a difference - and that together, we can help reduce food insecurity in Killingworth. Thank you for being such a caring community!

Ten (10) Killingworth Lions and friends of Lions volunteered preparing and serving meals at the Community Soup Kitchen (CSK) in New Haven this past Thursday. It was estimated that 180 nutritious meals were served during lunchtime and over 200 meals were boxed and delivered to other local shelters in the New Haven area. Many thanks to Lion volunteers, President David Beaudette, Charlie and Sandy Smith, Tom and Nancy Keyes, Chris Marinelli, David Woolley, Greg Wind, Selectman Nancy Gorski and Jackie Calamari. The Killingworth Lions have participated in International initiatives to address critical issues of mental health and hunger and the environment is slated for April. The Killingworth Lions who volunteered made a difference and the CSK was so appreciative of our help. Thank you Lions!

For over 3 decades, Lions clubs around the world have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. On November 6th, members of the Killingworth Lions visited HKMS to view artwork, listen to students who participated in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. On December 11th the Lions returned for an award and recognition ceremony to honor the top three artists. The presence of parents, Killingworth's 1st Selectman Eric Couture, school administrators, Lions District Governor Jim Tripp, Vice District Governor Joanne Davis, Killingworth Lions President David Beaudette and other supporting Lions all participated and made the event a genuine celebration of community, creativity, and civic engagement. Special thanks to Art Teacher Ms. Reina, Vice Principal Mr. FitzGerald and HKMS Principal Heather Persson and congratulations to the three winners, Brynn Chometa, Imogen Peterson and Aurora Mylen.

This past Sunday the Killingworth Lions Club had their annual Membership Pig Roast at Parmelee Farm. It was a perfect day where Club members, their families, District Leadership and invited guests joined a relaxing day and feast at the farm. As a community service project the Lions joined forces with the "Bike for Kids" organization assembling 20 brand new kid's bikes in preparation for their Polar Express ride on the Essex Steam train and their program of giving away bikes, helmets and lights in early November. Many thanks to Lion Todd Blewett for barbecuing a perfect pig and to those Lions who helped with the set-up, take down and many of the details that went into pulling off such a wonderful event and to those who brought side dishes and desserts that rounded out the feast. Extended thanks to the District 23C Leadership for joining us and mingling with the group. They included District Governor Jim Tripp and his wife, Lion Liz and 1st VDG Joanne Davis who all helped with the bike assembly process. Great afternoon at the farm and any expenses incurred were paid by Lions members and not from funds from the Lions Charity account. If any of you that read this post who might be interested in our club and what we do to support our community please contact Membership Chair Charlie Smith at (203) 430-5887.

Another Durham Fair for the Lions in the books. Quite a weekend and the weather was in our favor. It appears that the Lions were successful but it wouldn't have been possible without all the volunteers that prepared the building and worked multiple shifts and days. As usual our famous corn dogs and fried dough were big hits and we could see a lot of smiling faces from the crowd. Many thanks go to Chairperson Shay OBrien and her committee, President Dave Beaudette and Lion Mike Reilly for going above and beyond making sure we had enough supplies. In addition, we appreciate the support and batter improvements from Eileen Unger "The Bread Girl" and much help from her partner in service Richard Pleines. We would also like to recognize and applaud the help that we received from the Cromwell Lions and LEOs. Thank you all so very much. All-in-all it was a fantastic fair and we thank you all who stopped by to support us. All of the net-proceeds will go to service and charity organizations that the Killingworth Lions Club supports.

On Friday, Sept. 19th a few Lions and LEO Clubs got together to help hand-out supplies to our Veterans at the Easterseals Veterans Rally Point in Norwich. Our District 23C 2nd VDG Darla Pigeon who is a Marine veteran coordinated with clubs to gather supplies, conduct eye screenings and pass out supplies to a number of veterans who stopped by our tables and eye screening room. Killingworth Lion Tom Keyes (Navy Veteran) and partner in service Nancy, and Greg Wind helped throughout the day which had over 1,000 in attendance. The Veterans really appreciated everything that the Lions provided and was very encouraged to spend the day with the LEOs and Lions from Dist.23C. Very well done Lions!
