Photo dump from two amazing multi-day trips to Grout Pond this summer! What better way to recharge than with some fresh air - and a couple of days and nights in the woods of the U.S. Forest Service. Hiking, kayaking, cooking, just chilling, and good times with new and old friends. Thanks to Vermont Huts & Trails and their FOREST Program for rounding out these two amazing experiences. NEW PROGRAM ALERT in the Manchester Region - Communicate, Overcome, Relate, and Empower through this Path Pals Hiking series.

Get back to nature with some fun hikes in the Manchester region. All program fees are covered thanks to local grant funding and include the hiking program and lunch. Transportation not included, but gondola lift tickets are covered for the Stratton Mountain day.

Wednesday, Aug. 19 - Marble Rail Trail
Join us for a hike on a portion of the multi-use, rolling Marble Rail Trail made of crushed stone. We'll hike from Dana L Thompson Memorial Park toward North Road, through woods and over fields and streams, finishing on an old historic railroad bed that once carried marble to town in the early 1900s.

Wednesday, Aug. 26 - Stratton Fire Tower Trail
A .75 mile "beginner" route from the gondola terminal to the Stratton fire tower. Manned until 1979 and one of just a handful left in Vermont, the fire tower rewards you with views stretching across four states and mountain ranges. This section of the Appalachian/Long Trail, marked with white blazes, climbs to the summit of Stratton Mountain, with vista openings offering beautiful views of Somerset Reservoir to the south. At the top, you can climb a recently renovated 70 ft. fire tower, originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, for a 360-degree view of the Green Mountains and the Taconics to the west.

Wednesday, Sept. 2 - Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home
Join us for a meander through the Hildene campus, learning Lincoln family history, peeking into "Sunbeam" the 1903 Pullman Rail Car, meeting and brushing the goats at the active Goat Dairy, and taking a wagon ride through the farm. It's a downhill walk on crushed gravel, with golf cart shuttles available. Founded in 1978, Hildene brings the Lincoln legacy to life through immersive experiences and dynamic exhibits across its 412-acre estate, featuring a Georgian Revival mansion, formal garden, observatory, Welcome Center, Museum Store, Pullman car, and working farm - one of Vermont's leading cultural heritage sites.

Join us in Rochester, Vermont, on August 15 for BigTown Project’s FILM/TALK/FOOD presentation featuring the Wild & Scenic Film Festival’s Best of the Fest 2026 touring program! This year’s lineup includes the Vermont-made, award-winning film Best Day Ever Movie, directed by Ben Knight.

The screenings begin at 3:00 p.m. at Valley Hub Inc and is followed by a Q&A on adaptive recreation, trail access, and the future of inclusive outdoor experiences in Vermont.

After the discussion, stick around for the “Spirit of the Dough” wood-fired pizza dinner at 6:00 p.m. behind Green Mountain Bikes.

Happy ! Huge cheers to these smart, amazing interns - we couldn’t do what we do without you and all the support you provide Vermont Adaptive program coordinators throughout the year. We hope you take away some great resources and experiences from your time with Vermont Adaptive and have some adventures along the way. Thank you Maggie, Nate, Meriwether, Emma, Kelsey, Tessa, Hudson, Roman, Will, and Caden!

Vermont Adaptive relies on more than 20 interns a year to help with programming and administration. We’re stoked to be at The Kingdom Bike Fest and we’re hoping you join us! Vermont Adaptive is heading up to Lyndonville Aug. 8-9 for a full weekend of mountain biking community at Kingdom Trails and Wildflower Inn, Vermont.

We’re running adaptive bike rides all day Saturday, right alongside kids races, the Shimano Adventure Ride, Highland’s Skills Zone, and more. Reservations are required so sign up as space is limited. The Northeast Kingdom is some of our favorite riding in the state, and we can’t wait to get back up there.

Today marked 36 years since the ADA became law — but the work is not done, it never is. We are always thinking about what access really means, especially out here in the outdoors.

Last Friday we were out at Hapgood Pond with the US Forest Service talking through upgrades to the rec site — including an accessible trail. We also talked about a future connector trail linking up to the Velomont. And down the road, there’s real potential for a new accessible hut with Vermont Huts Association in the mix too.

The ADA gave us the framework. But accessible spaces - including outdoor spaces - don’t happen once and stay finished — they take ongoing assessment, ongoing partnerships, ongoing people showing up to ask “does this actually work for everyone who wants to use it?”

We are grateful to being a part of the conversations of “what’s next?”

We're Climbing the Walls Again! Indoor Rock Climbing sessions at in Essex Junction are back, and the new dates for the rest of the summer and fall are here.

Whether you're chasing a workout, a new hobby, or just a good excuse to hang out with friends, this is one of the best ways to get moving and get social at the same time. There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when you reach the top of the wall or simply getting a few hand holds from off the ground.

Sessions run 1-3 p.m. or 4-6 p.m. every other Wednesday.
