Hello from another monthly KSAR training event!
It’s mountain bike season finally!
This month, we had a mountain biker who fell and sustained a major leg injury.
Our training objectives included assessment and treatment of a major lower extremity injury, patient packaging and carry out using our ATV to extract our patient from the woods.
We reviewed proper uses and application of a femur traction splint.
We were blessed with a downpour of rain to cap off the training.

Last week, five members of the Killington search and rescue team attended a four day comprehensive training, focused on managing lost person incidents utilizing CalTopo.

This event was hosted by Vermont State police and Stowe Mountain rescue. We trained alongside other search and rescue teams across New England, including NH Fish & Game, several K9 teams, Upper Valley Mtn Rescue, and the Maine Warden service. The experience, wisdom and collaborative spirit in that room was unparalleled.

The team has been using CalTopo as a mapping and tracking tool for all call outs over the past 2+ years. This training launched us from newbie users to mapping and tracking wizards.
It is truly amazing what this tool is capable of, and we highly recommend that you check it out! 

It was a privilege to learn from the highly skilled and experienced folks at CalTopo who conduct large scale incidents throughout the state of California. We really dove into what this tool is capable of and as a result feel even more capable as a SAR team.

Thank you Vermont State Police, Stowe Mountain Rescue and CalTopo for this incredible training. We look forward to working with you all again in the future!

This months training brought the KSAR team to new heights - pun absolutely intended. While KSAR does not have a high angle team, the Vermont landscape is full of rocky cliffs and difficult to access terrain. Belaying to an injured or stranded person is an essential skill. We are so grateful to have Justin Laramie for these trainings. Stay safe out there Killington community. It’s still very cold at night with highly variable conditions on the trails.

A HUGE thank you to , and the greater Killington community for supporting KSAR! After a month-long fundraising effort, culminating with a line dancing event at The Wobbly Barn, the contributions drew nearly $25,000. Killington Resort doubled their initial $5k match and the community showed up BIG time! Your incredible generosity will fund essential equipment and advanced training for the Killington Search and Rescue team! 👏👏👏
