Road crews are working between Old 22 and Keila Dr today doing soil cement processing and according to their message yesterday asphalt binder (tar) this afternoon. Not sure if they will extend this work zone later today or not.

Work between Keila and Carthage Bluff is minimal and is a great alternate route.

Also the speed limit is 20 MPH through this area and then steps up to 30 MPH just before Keila. It’s wise to drive with caution when work is going on. Oitside of work times the roadway is not an idle zone.

🚨 EMERGENCY WATERWAY CLOSURES IN EFFECT 🚨

As of 12:00 PM today (Sunday, October 5th), all recreational traffic on the Amite River, Diversion Canal, Tickfaw River, and connected tributaries from the weir south to Lake Maurepas is closed until further notice.

This action was taken due to rising water levels caused by ongoing high east winds and weather conditions in the Gulf.

Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte and LOHSEP Director Chris Anderson have issued an official proclamation of emergency closures to help protect residents and property in low lying areas.

Please avoid all recreational boating activities and stay alert for updates from the Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Community First: Investing in the Ones Who Show Up First

In 2024 alone, our fire departments responded to over 1,100 overdose calls and we lost far too many to cardiac arrest tied to opioids. This isn’t just a crisis. It’s a call to action.

That’s why ar the last coucil meeting we submitted a proposal to use Louisiana opioid settlement funds to equip all 11 Livingston Parish Fire Districts with critical, life-saving tools:
•A LUCAS Mechanical CPR Device
• A LifePak AED
•A Portable Suction Unit

These tools mean real chances to save lives when seconds matter most.

But we’re not just reacting, we’re getting ahead of the crisis too. We also announced a $15,000 investment into the Livingston Parish SADD Summer Camp, focused on prevention, peer education, and leadership. That’s how we protect the next generation before they ever end up in the back of an ambulance.

This is what it looks like to fight on both fronts: rescue and prevention.
And we’re just getting started.

Great event this weekend to support a couple of great causes.
