💙 Celebrating Seven Years of Service 💙

The Food Care Center recently had the opportunity to recognize Jim Bondi and thank him for seven years of service on our Board of Directors, including the last three years serving as Chairman of the Board.

Throughout his time with the Food Care Center, Jim gave his time, supported our volunteers, encouraged community involvement, and worked to strengthen the partnerships that help us serve families throughout our community.

Even during his final year as Chairman, Jim continued working on behalf of the Center. His efforts helped secure support and donations for this year’s holiday season, including resources that will help us provide turkeys and holiday meals to the families we serve.

Seven years of service represents countless meetings, decisions, conversations, volunteer hours, and moments spent advocating for the mission of the Food Care Center. We are grateful for the time and commitment Jim gave to this organization.

💜 Celebrating More Than 20 Years of Service — Ms. Carmen Rivera 💜

Some posts are harder to write than others, and this is certainly one of them.

After more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Food Care Center, our very own Ms. Carmen Rivera has officially retired.

For more than two decades, Ms. Carmen has been a constant presence at the Center. And if you know Carmen, you know she wasn’t always going to give you a smile🤭, but you could count on her to work! She was dependable, hardworking, and took pride in what she did. Most importantly, she truly loved the Food Care Center and the people we serve.

When you think about the thousands of families who have walked through our doors during her more than 20 years of service, you begin to understand the magnitude of her impact. Carmen gave countless hours of her life to making sure food was ready, shelves were stocked, clients were served, and the work got done.

That kind of dedication cannot be measured by a job title or a number of years. It becomes part of the legacy of an organization.

Carmen, thank you for more than two decades of hard work, commitment, and love poured into the Food Care Center. You have certainly earned this next chapter, and we hope retirement brings you plenty of time to rest, enjoy yourself, and travel a little more.💜

Brotherhood in Service 💛🤎

A heartfelt thank you to the Men of The Gamma Alpha Omega Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. for once again showing up for the Food Care Center and helping us restock our shelves!

Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc is grounded in the principles of Scholarship, Leadership, Citizenship, Fidelity, and Brotherhood, and we see those principles in action when these Brothers give their time to serve others.

With the number of families seeking food assistance continuing to grow, every volunteer who walks through our doors helps us meet that need. We are grateful for the Men of Iota Phi Theta for being willing to roll up their sleeves, serve our clients, and help us continue to stand in the gap created by hunger.

A special thank you to the Killeen Kappas of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for coming out to the Food Care Center and helping us restock our shelves!

Kappa Alpha Psi’s commitment to “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor” extends beyond individual achievement, it can be seen in the way these Brothers continue to invest their time and talents in the community they serve.

Every shelf restocked helps us prepare for the next family who walks through our doors. We are grateful for the Killeen Kappas and their willingness to serve alongside us as we continue to stand in the gap created by hunger.

💙 The Heart of Volunteering

This week reminded us just how invaluable our volunteers truly are.

With members of our team away for training and conference commitments, our staff found ourselves operating with just four team members. Even so, we were still called to serve the hundreds of families who rely on the Food Care Center each day.

Our volunteers answered that call.

They arrived as early as 6:00 a.m. to help prepare for the day. When we made phone calls asking for assistance, they responded without hesitation. They stocked shelves, organized food, greeted clients, packed groceries, assisted in the parking lots, and did whatever was needed to ensure every family was served with dignity and care.

Because of their willingness to serve, we were able to continue providing food, hope, and encouragement to our community.

There are simply no words to fully express our gratitude. Without our volunteers, we truly could not do what we do.

Today, we would also like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Steve McBride, one of our dedicated volunteers, for sharing the following reflection on what volunteering means to him. We are honored to share his words exactly as he wrote them.

Mr. Steve's reflection reminds us that volunteering is about much more than distributing food, it is about showing compassion, offering hope, and making a lasting impact in the lives of others.

To every Food Care Center volunteer: THANK YOU for your compassion, your commitment, and your servant's heart. Thank you for answering the call when we needed you most. You truly help us stand in the gap created by hunger, and we appreciate each and every one of you.

🇺🇸 Fourth of July Holiday Schedule 🇺🇸

Please note that the Food Care Center will not hold our extended afternoon distribution on Friday, July 3rd, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

✅ Our regular daytime distribution hours from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM will continue as scheduled.

We appreciate your understanding as our staff and volunteers spend time with their families and celebrate the holiday.

Today, the Food Care Center was honored to receive a very generous donation from Sons of American Legion POST 573.

We are deeply grateful for their commitment to serving our community and supporting efforts to help individuals and families facing food insecurity. Partnerships like these allow us to continue making a difference in the lives of those we serve each day.

Juneteenth Holiday Closure Notice

In observance of Juneteenth, the Food Care Center will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026.

This closure will be reflected on our posted signage and shared on our website.

We will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We wish you and your family a safe, meaningful, and joyful Juneteenth.
