Thermal imaging, aerial mapping, and search and rescue across Central Texas, built to reach the jobs other operators turn down. Backcountry Drones covers nighttime wildlife and hog surveys, lost-animal recovery, construction progress documentation, roof and structure inspections, and land monitoring, plus drone sales and repair. Rough terrain, dense brush, structures nobody wants to climb, that's the work we're set up for. If you can't get to it, we can get above it.

Every year it seems like the government wants to push "policy" disguised as "America First", while at the same time running small businesses into the ground. If this proposal goes through, it will effectively ground every pilot once their drone goes down for good, because they won't be able to find someone that can order them a new one.

If you want to see us stick around, we encourage you to submit your comments TODAY.

🎒 Field Gear Friday: Humane Trap

A humane trap is not usually the first step in recovering a frightened dog.

First, we want to establish a pattern.

Trail cameras and feeding stations can help determine when the animal is returning. Once that routine becomes predictable, a properly monitored humane trap may provide a safe recovery option.

Pattern first. Capture second.

🐾 What Would You Do?

You see your missing dog walking calmly along a fence line 150 yards away.

What do you do?

A. Run toward it
B. Yell its name repeatedly
C. Stay back, remain calm, and observe its movement
D. Get several people to surround it

Sometimes the hardest part of recovery is resisting the urge to chase.

Good luck to all the dove hunters here in the great state of Texas. Since we are in the dog rescue business and have had upward trends of hunting breeds running from gunfire in the field, we just wanted to send out a reminder about what you can do, should your best friend run off.

🦌 More Deer Doesn’t Always Mean a Healthier Ranch

Having an abundance of deer on your property may look like a sign of success—but there is a point where more deer can become a problem.

Every ranch has a carrying capacity: the number of animals the land can support with the available food, water, cover, and space.

So the question isn’t simply:

“How many deer do I have?”

It’s:

“Can my land actually support the number of deer I have?”

Too many mouths competing for limited resources can affect body condition, habitat quality, reproduction, and ultimately the health of the herd.

A thermal wildlife survey gives you another piece of that management picture by helping establish how many animals are using the property and where they are concentrated.

Do you know if your ranch is underpopulated, balanced—or carrying more deer than the habitat can support?

🌡️ Thermal Myth

MYTH: Thermal cameras can see through trees.

They cannot.

Thermal cameras detect heat from visible surfaces. Heavy vegetation, buildings, tree trunks, and other solid objects can block an animal completely.

That is why flight angle, altitude, terrain, temperature, and pilot experience matter.

🐾 Missing Animal Fact of the Day

A frightened dog may recognize its owner and still run away.

Fear can temporarily override normal behavior, which is why chasing, yelling, or rushing toward a lost dog can make recovery harder.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop, stay calm, and let the dog make the next move.

While we primarily fly for privately owned animals, there are several instances where the phone rings and it's a rescue organization needing help capturing a dog.

We've been part of some big cases for high risk animals and we will always donate what we can to get the job done.

If you're a fan of what we do and wanted to help in a big way, please consider donating to some of these great organizations.
