Giving back is good for our community and good for your well-being. ๐ŸŒŠ

Volunteering is a great way to connect with others, spend time outdoors and find purpose through making a difference close to home.

There are several opportunities to get involved in upcoming beach cleanups with our partner, Surfrider Foundation, Outer Banks Chapter. Find cleanup dates and other ways to give back at ThriveOBX.com/Events.

A big shoutout to our incredible beach access adopters, The Studio, for keeping the Blackman Street access clean, safe, and beautiful! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’™

By combining Pre-K, after-school care, and summer camps with hands-on beach cleanups, they are setting a powerful example for our kids and teaching the next generation to be true ocean stewards. ๐Ÿ–๏ธโœจ

Thank you, Studio crew, for taking care of our shores and leading the way for our youngest beachgoers!

Over 60,000 yards of fishing lines were recovered from beaches in a single year. Thatโ€™s roughly the distance from Nags Head down past Cape Hatteras National Seashore, or 600 football fields โ€ผ๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ˆIt was the 3rd most common item collected nationwide according to Surfrider Foundation's latest beach cleanup report.

Leftover fishing line and discarded gear pose a huge threat to coastal wildlife, sea turtles, and shorebirds that call the Outer Banks home.

Quick tips before your next surf casting or fishing trip:
โœ”๏ธ Pack out all old line and monofilament.
โœ”๏ธ Use monofilament recycling bins at piers, soundside and beach access points.
โœ”๏ธ Secure your tackle so it doesn't wash away with the tide.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Come join your friendly neighborhood newsies for a beach cleanup!

We pick up trash anytime we go to the beach because this is our home. But now we have formalized a beach access adoption to be able to set times to involve you and contribute data to the larger efforts of Surfrider Foundation, Outer Banks Chapter!

Don't worry: We'll hold open office hours from 9-10 a.m. and from 12-1 p.m. at the same location on the same day if you just want to come have casual conversation with no pressure to clean!

๐Ÿ– Those of you who are interested in the cleanup: We'll see you on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Glidden Street access in Nags Head. Bring your own gloves and trash grabbers! We'll have trashbags and a few sets of grabbers!
