Kilgore Legacy Foundation Our mission is starting a legacy by creating a tradition for the city of Kilgore by raising awareness through public events and fundraising.

The Kilgore Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2013 by various members of the Kilgore community. The members have a strong desire to bring passion into the community through community service and awareness. Meet our 2026 Juneteenth Queen & Scholarship Recipient:

Ms. Brooke Block is a senior at Tyler Legacy High School. She is a volunteer at PATH, a non-profit organization, where she is able to give back to her community and make a positive impact.

She plans to pursue an education in nursing, at the University of Houston.

Meet our 2026 Juneteenth King & Scholarship Recipient:

Mr. Jabryn Carston is a senior at Tyler Legacy High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and was awarded Outstanding Music Director award from the Broadway Dallas HSMTA. He was ranked 1 in the TMEA All Region Jazz Piano chair twice.

He plans to pursue an education and career in music production, composition, and direction.

KLF Scholarship Application
The Foundation is hosting an essay competition to select a King and Queen for Juneteenth
2026.
The requirements are as follows:
1. The candidate must be a high school senior or college student up to the age of 21 at the time
of submission.
2. Each candidate must also submit an essay of 500 to 1000 words on the subject
“Juneteenth: The Past, Present, and Future. What will the future of Juneteenth look like?”
- typed and double-spaced.
Each candidate must also attach a photo and biography.
Example: Name, Date of Birth, Phone Number, School or interest in education,
email address, hobbies, goals, interests, etc.
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 8, 2026

4. Each candidate must agree to participate in all Kilgore Legacy Foundation 2026 events as
education permits:
March 7th Black Tie Gala at The Texan Theatre at 7:00 p.m.
Juneteenth Parade and Fun Fest; Presentation of Scholarships

Kilgore Christmas Parade
Date TBD
5. Winners of the competition will receive a $1000 scholarship that will be presented at the Fun
Fest Celebration.
6. Winners will be asked to read the winning essay at the Black Tie Gala and Juneteenth Fun
Fest.
7. Winners will be contacted by phone. If you are not contacted, then you have not placed in the
competition. The essay will be judged independently of all Foundation members.
8. Please remember that the Kilgore Legacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization and must
follow laws set forth by state and federal governing bodies.
9. The contest is not open to immediate family members of the Kilgore Legacy Foundation.
Note: All submissions become the property of KLF .
The Kilgore Legacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization and has no prior knowledge of the
number of candidates being submitted.
Please make copies of this information for each candidate who is interested in the Kilgore
Legacy Foundation Scholarship.
** Winners must be in good standing academically as it relates to attendance and grades.
