*Kilgore Legacy Foundation is seeking applicants for this Year’s Juneteenth King and Queen, full details listed below. Winners will be presented at the Black Tie Gala on March 7, 2026.

KLF Scholarship Application
The Foundation is hosting an essay competition to select a King and Queen for Juneteenth
2026.
The requirements are as follows:
1. The candidate must be a high school senior or college student up to the age of 21 at the time
of submission.
2. Each candidate must also submit an essay of 500 to 1000 words on the subject
“Juneteenth: The Past, Present, and Future. What will the future of Juneteenth look like?”
- typed and double-spaced.
Each candidate must also attach a photo and biography.
Example: Name, Date of Birth, Phone Number, School or interest in education,
email address, hobbies, goals, interests, etc.
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 8, 2026

4. Each candidate must agree to participate in all Kilgore Legacy Foundation 2026 events as
education permits:
March 7th Black Tie Gala at The Texan Theatre at 7:00 p.m.
Juneteenth Parade and Fun Fest; Presentation of Scholarships

Kilgore Christmas Parade
Date TBD
5. Winners of the competition will receive a $1000 scholarship that will be presented at the Fun
Fest Celebration.
6. Winners will be asked to read the winning essay at the Black Tie Gala and Juneteenth Fun
Fest.
7. Winners will be contacted by phone. If you are not contacted, then you have not placed in the
competition. The essay will be judged independently of all Foundation members.
8. Please remember that the Kilgore Legacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization and must
follow laws set forth by state and federal governing bodies.
9. The contest is not open to immediate family members of the Kilgore Legacy Foundation.
Note: All submissions become the property of KLF .
The Kilgore Legacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization and has no prior knowledge of the
number of candidates being submitted.
