If you’re a bird lover AND an outdoor cat lover, try these tips for keeping birds safe this summer.

🐦‍⬛ Keep bird feeders out in the open, away from anything cats can climb to reach birds at the feeder, or bushes where cats can hide.
🐦‍⬛ Try forgoing feeders and instead landscape with native plants that have seeds, berries, nuts, nectar or buds the birds enjoy (or plants that attract bugs they eat). Eliminating feeders will also help limit the spread of avian flu and other diseases by preventing birds from congregating.
🐦‍⬛ Set a feeding schedule so birds know when to come for their snack every day… preferably a time when the cats are snoozing.

June is . As the spring kitten season winds down, many shelters are crowded with little ones. So spread the word and encourage anyone thinking about adopting a cat to make the leap now and go down to the local shelter to find a new friend!

If you have kittens in your colony and you’re wondering what to do, ask yourself:
✔️ Are they young enough (less than 8 weeks old) to easily tame?
✔️ Do you have the time and resources to bring them inside and care for them until you find them homes?
✔️ Is there a rescue partner who can take them in, freeing you up to do TNR and manage your colony?

If it’s not feasible for you to rescue and adopt the kittens, it’s ok to care for them where they are. Just be sure to get Mom (and Dad) fixed ASAP, then spay/neuter the kittens when they’re old enough. Preventing more litters is the name of the TNR game!

Yesterday was a milestone day for Aloha FurEver Pets Foundation as we successfully hosted our very first independently organized spay and neuter clinic at Kulanihakoʻi High School!

Thanks to the incredible dedication of our volunteers, veterinary team, trappers, transporters, and supporters, we were able to spay and neuter 77 cats in a single day. The clinic ran smoothly, the animals received excellent care, and the overwhelming support from our community reminded us why this work matters so much.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and heart to make this event possible. AFPF is powered by people who care, and yesterday was a beautiful example of what can be accomplished when a community comes together for the welfare of Maui’s animals.

We would also like to give a very special thank you to Rusty MauiCat Collective. Their generosity and support played a critical role in the success of this clinic. In fact, without their contribution, we likely would not have been able to offer this clinic free of charge to the community. Their commitment to helping Maui’s cats directly impacted dozens of animals and the people who care for them. We are profoundly grateful for their partnership and belief in our mission.

To everyone who supported, donated, volunteered, trapped, transported, sponsored, and cheered us on - thank you. Seventy-seven cats now have a healthier future because of you.

This is only the beginning. ❤️🐾
