MAUI TOURISM REVENUE UP
Tourism to Maui has rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic with 215,148 visitors in May 2021, but the number of tourists is still less than the 251,655 in May 2019, according to preliminary statistics from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority.
However, despite having 36,517 fewer visitors in May 2021 than May 2019, tourist spending on Maui was $409.23 million, an increase of 2.2% from two years ago, the report said. https://mauinow.com/.../215148-tourists-to-maui-in-may.../
HOTEL STATS - UP FROM 2019

The occupancy rate of Maui County hotels in May 2021 also has rebounded to 67.1%, but it is still 9.1 percentage points below the same time in 2019.

Attached is a final comment from the person who made the original thread (211 responses) on Next door Kihei and perhaps, final response. If possible, I’d appreciate if you would share it and email or participate via the zoom style link. I think it pretty much represents the great majority of local sentiment on the subject across 211 comments.
Overcrowding and the cure

Hi everyone, thanks for all your input. I am going to delete this feed in a couple of days. Thanks for giving input , there are so many ways of looking at things from another point of view. Please help solve the issues of this island by being involved. Just like what happened here. It starts by speaking up to what you believe , but most of all taking action. I do believe we need to pause the building of non-residential buildings for a couple of years until there is a plan in place. I do believe right now there seems to be even more crowding than the day I started this post . Like a standing room only feel. Every beach I went to was so crowded. With the hotels taking over the front of their beaches with huge lounge chairs leaving us just a tiny area. So remember when you complain next time that you can make a difference by sending a small email as stated above. We need homes for us, because without the people of Maui all the businesses will halt with no workers. $500 bonus for being hired for some restaurants feeling the shortage of workers should be a sign..
