South Maui Save the Wetlands

One of the last green areas in Kihei, a designated wetland, and roosting habitat for endangered Hoary bats is being illegally cleared. No permits and roughly 4-5 acres of living forest have been cleared so far. The authorities are slow to respond, and soon nothing will be left.

The norning streams of ice water are present everyday. The cold area in the highest point of the mauka lands and the hot air rising from the makai lands creates condensation, that water seeps deep into the porice lava rock floeing down through the mauna. Creating deep springs near the water tables and seeping into Hawaiian Wetlands before dancing with the ocean.

Please prepare. Stay safe. Keep a good distance away from flowing water, which will be full of debris and toxic runoff.

If you can safely do so, please take pics of flooding in your area and tag us

Time stamps and names of streams or screenshots of the area on google Maps are always helpful in the process of recording these wetlands and mineral runoff created by large developments.

Saturday Volunteers can safely observe and record taking pictures of flooding or runoff in your area.

DO NOT come to La'ie mauka wetlands we will NOT be gathering on Saturday due to flooding.

Please document flooding in your area. You can add a timestamp and location if possible using a sticker feature on Instagram.
