"Can you think of a more destructive way to extract resources than blowing up a mountain? How about if the waste from doing it is dumped straight into mountain streams?

Mountaintop removal is a radical form of coal mining in which the tops of mountains are literally blasted off to access seams of coal. It takes place in the Appalachian Mountains, one of the oldest mountain ranges on Earth."

The importance of water

World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater.
World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis.

This GivingTuesday (November 30th) we're raising funds for The WASH Project. The WASH project is a plan to renovate a space in the Riverbend Center in Kimball, WV to provide showers and laundry facilities for community members. In addition to providing a location to maintain basic health and hygiene needs, residents will have access to informational resources such as sustainability, rainwater collection, water filters, cisterns, nutrition, green building and energy.

Many communities in Appalachia do not have dependable water sources. Towns that do have public water systems still face problems such as pipes bursting due to failing infrastructures and compromised water resulting in boil alerts and water outages for weeks. Many communities lack the funds and resources to provide proper water treatment and testing of the public water sources. Other residents in Appalachia do not have access to ANY public water source.

Once again, Keystone, WV is without running water. Nobody ever knows if it'll be one day or one month. We have elderly citizens and persons with disabilities who can't easily run and collect water. People need water to bathe, flush their toilets, clean, take care of their animals and to DRINK. Click link in bio for more information.

If you're not familiar with GivingTuesday, it's a global generosity movement unleashing the power radical generosity. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Join the movement and give – each Tuesday and every day – whether it’s some of your time, a donation, or the power of your voice in your local community.
It’s a simple idea: whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.
