A group of wonderful partners are hosting convenings across the state for nonprofits and other community-based organizations to learn about the 2027 Medicaid changes, community engagement requirements (“work requirements”), and how their organization can best help people they serve. These informational workshops will focus not only on learning more about the changes but also how nonprofits can best utilize volunteers and track their hours to keep people enrolled in Medicaid services.

After nearly four decades of service, leadership, and commitment to our communities, Michele Walker has announced her retirement as Executive Director of Potomac Highlands United Way, effective December 31, 2026. 💙🧡

Michele’s 38 years of combined service to United Way have helped shape not only our organization, but the communities and partnerships we are privileged to serve throughout the Potomac Highlands.

Her legacy can be seen in the relationships she has built, the causes she has championed, and the countless lives touched through her dedication to helping others.

Over the coming months, we look forward to celebrating Michele and the remarkable impact of her career.

For now, please join our Board of Directors and staff in saying thank you, Michele, for 38 incredible years of service—and congratulations on a well-deserved retirement! 💙

The NEW Potomac Highlands United Way ALICE Crisis Diversion Fund provides one-time financial assistance of up to $1,000 to eligible working households facing an unexpected emergency—from vehicle repairs and utility shut-offs to medical expenses, childcare, housing costs, and more.

ALICE households are working households that earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford the basic cost of living.

Help is here. If you or someone you know may qualify, contact the designated partner agency in your county to learn more.
