🏡 Understanding Transitional Living: A Bridge to Independence

At Burlington United Methodist Family Services, our Transitional Living Program helps young adults build the skills, confidence, and support system they need to successfully transition into independent living.

Many youth leaving foster care or residential care face challenges such as finding stable housing, managing finances, continuing their education, and navigating adulthood on their own. Transitional Living provides a safe and supportive environment where they can learn and practice essential life skills while receiving guidance from caring professionals.

Through our program, youth have opportunities to:

✅ Learn budgeting and money management
✅ Develop employment and career readiness skills
✅ Pursue education and training goals
✅ Build healthy relationships and communication skills
✅ Gain experience with independent living responsibilities
✅ Receive ongoing support and mentorship

Our goal is to empower young people to become confident, self-sufficient adults who are prepared for a successful future.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, and Transitional Living helps light the path forward.

Happy Father’s Day from Burlington United Methodist Family Services

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, stepfathers, mentors, and father figures who make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families every day.

A father’s love, guidance, encouragement, and presence can help build confidence, provide stability, and inspire hope for the future. Whether through quiet acts of support, words of wisdom, or simply being there when needed most, fathers play an important role in helping children grow and thrive.

At Burlington United Methodist Family Services, we are grateful for the men who demonstrate compassion, strength, patience, and unconditional care in the lives of those they love.

On this Father’s Day, we honor and thank all fathers and father figures for the positive impact they make in their families and communities.

Happy Father’s Day!

"The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him."
— Proverbs 20:7

⭐ The Meaning Behind Star of Hope ⭐

As we prepare for our transition to Star of Hope Family Services, we want to share the special history behind our new name.

Many may not realize that this is not a completely new name for our organization. In fact, it is a return to our roots.

In 1913, our ministry was founded in Burlington, West Virginia as the Star of Hope Children's Refuge. More than 100 years ago, the founders of this ministry chose a name that reflected their vision: to be a guiding light for children facing uncertainty, hardship, and adversity.

Just as a star provides direction and hope in the darkness, our organization has spent generations helping children, families, and communities find a path forward through compassion, support, and Christ-centered care.

Today, the name Star of Hope Family Services honors that legacy while reflecting the broad range of services we now provide throughout West Virginia. It connects our rich history with our future mission of empowering children and families to reach their fullest potential.

While our name is changing, our commitment remains the same:

💙 Providing hope
💙 Strengthening families
💙 Supporting communities
💙 Serving with compassion and faith

As we embrace this next chapter, we are proud to carry forward a name that has represented hope for more than a century.

✨ Trust God's Direction ✨

Life is full of moments when the path ahead isn't always clear. Change, challenges, and uncertainty can leave us searching for answers. In those moments, God reminds us that we don't have to rely on our own understanding—we can trust Him to lead the way.

📖 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
— Proverbs 3:5-6

As we walk through new seasons, we are encouraged to place our faith in God's guidance, knowing that He sees the bigger picture and faithfully directs our steps.

Today, take a moment to pause, pray, and trust that God is leading you exactly where you need to be.

❤️ Where have you seen God provide direction in your life?
