Save Our Pines is a non-profit organization that has continued its mission to protect and preserve the historic Australian pine canopy at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park.

As the existing pines continue to age, they are disappearing due to natural attrition and adverse weather. Save Our Pines is attempting to obtain a legislative exemption for the pines under the Florida state invasive species law.

The historical significance of Fort Zach’s Australian pines has been researched, documented and recorded and now needs to be formally recognized. The Australian pines have existed at Fort Zach since the 1800s.

They have acted as treasured veterans, shielding the Fort from adverse weather events, anchoring the dredge fill—since its introduction in the 60s—and effectively preventing erosion damage to the beach.

These culturally significant trees should be honored, valued, and preserved to continue their function for the benefit of this National Historic Landmark and its visitors.

On behalf of Key West Friends of Asheville, Salute! On The Beach, and Thrive AVL, we want to express our gratitude for your support at our Fundraising Party this past weekend.
Our community came together to enjoy a memorable evening highlighted by an incredible silent auction, delightful food, and fantastic music.
Thanks to our fundraising efforts, and the kindness and compassion of our Key West community, we were able to raise over $70,000 for those in need in Asheville.

Our Key West Mission Statement:
Key West Friends of Asheville are a group of individuals who help raise funds in conjunction with a non-profit in Asheville known as ThriveAVL.org. All funds raised will be sent to ThriveAVL.org for their expert distribution of relief to those in need due to Hurricane Helene, in the district of Western North Carolina.

All funds received, will either go directly to ThriveAVL.org or through Key West Centennial Bank account under the name CTC Network (for check donations), or Venmo under the name Key West Friends of Asheville: . These will then be sent to ThriveAVL.org.

MISSION STATEMENT FROM THRIVEAVL
Key West friends of Asheville, Salute! On The Beach and ThriveAVL(non-profit) are organizing a fundraising event on January 18th at Higgs Beach.
Funds raised will go to Thrive Asheville - a critical resource hub serving individuals and families recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.
Thrive Asheville and United Way are jointly leading the Long Term Recovery group, which brings together over 100 members of nonprofit, faith based, government and business organizations to assist individuals and families recovering from Hurricane Helene. Thrive Avl link people with help via a single point of entry that is equitable for all, especially those hardest hit. In addition, we address urgent housing needs (accessing funds, materials and assistance for repair as well as securing stable housing).

Thank you for your incredible support. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement brings us one step closer to making a meaningful difference. We couldn’t do it without you.
