We are part of the progressive PCUSA, which welcomes everyone as a child of God. Our co-pastors are the Rev. Dr. Victoria Isaacs and the Rev. More than half a century ago, two groups of people began a discussion that was challenging in many ways. In the years before, a third Presbyterian Church was begun in Key West as a break away from the established First Presbyterian Church. After a number of years, the groups who had once been one were invited to discuss, in the Spirit of faithfulness to the Gospel and practice of good stewardship, to become one again. Many weeks later, the result became alive in the formation of a new church named Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church; a name that reflects the reconciliation and new spirit that was nurtured between two groups. From the roots of two churches, one dedicated to being a light to the nations, and a presence of God’s love, in Key West was born. Over the years, the congregation of Peace Covenant has been known as people who prayed for others, who extended a helping hand in a variety of ways, and who would reach out in sacrificial ministry. A pre-school co-op calls the buildings and grounds “home, “ and we are now beginning to bless our “co-op kids” as they go to college! In these days, the congregation continues to enjoy the influx of many seasonal friends, the participation of military families, and the steadfastness of the permanent residents, some of whom are multi-generational “Conchs!” The congregation finds itself experiencing the wonders and struggles of transition as these folks are embraced into the community, bringing different life and church experiences, and as the dynamics of Key West twist and turn. Please join us as we seek to live out God's call to love Him and love others.

We remember Sept. 11, 2001 | A message from Pastor Victoria Isaacs …

There are a handful of dates and events that each of us remembers. We remember where we were, what we were doing, and how we felt.

September 11, 2001 is one of them. For Robert and me, we remember it was around 3:00 in the afternoon in southern Spain when Robert was called to report to his commander's office. We remember our children were released from school and we remember we were told to shelter in place in our homes.

Our experience of 9/11 is somewhat different because we were not on U.S. soil. We did not see all the American flags displayed or all the people who showed up in churches that following Sunday. Our experience was among the small group of American service personnel and their families stationed at Morón Air Base outside of Sevilla, Spain.

Living and working with such a small number of Americans during that stressful time brought us into a closeness that is difficult to describe in words. Suffice it to say that we bonded in ways that time cannot erase. We were alone, far from extended family, faced with layers of unknowns regarding our safety and we were navigating all of it with very little outside support.

This weekend Robert and I are hosting a reunion for the group of us who lived and worked together in Spain during that time.

Twenty-two of us will be gathering in fellowship to remember the good work we did together as we served our nation in a time of fear and uncertainty and war. Our base commander will be with us, our senior enlisted officer will be in attendance, as well as many other retired Air Force service members and their spouses. The spouses, in particular, served in several hidden ways, supporting our service personnel working long shifts with no days off and greeting American military members from all over the globe as they traveled through our small base toward dangerous unknowns. Many of us provided warm welcomes and hospitality when fear and danger filled many young persons' souls.

This weekend we will gather, give thanks for the good work we accomplished together, give thanks to God for the guidance and protection we experienced, and to enjoy fellowship among friends. Friendships forged out of pain, fear, and appreciation for each other.

We invite you to welcome any from our group who may choose to attend worship with us this Sunday. They are some of our best and brightest... true American heroes who rose to the occasion to respond to evil with hearts of service and love for their country.

See you Sunday!

In Christ,

Victoria
