📚✨ Did you know that one small island has inspired hundreds of books and some of the most iconic voices in American literature?

From Ernest Hemingway to Tennessee Williams, Elizabeth Bishop to Judy Blume, Key West has long been a sanctuary for storytellers, poets, and dreamers. 🖊️🌴

And today, that literary spirit is still alive and thriving right here in our community.

📸 The photo you’re seeing? It was taken inside Hemingway’s personal study, the very room where words turned into world-changing stories. A quiet space, filled with history, that reminds us just how powerful a library, a desk, or even a single idea can be.

At Friends of the Key West Library, we believe in preserving that spirit, supporting access to books, ideas, and lifelong learning for everyone on our island.

Last night Bob Rich, avid outdoorsman and popular fly fishing writer, explained to the Speaker Series crowd that he ‘found the perfect island’ - right here in the Florida Keys. Bob’s ‘perfect island’ comes to life in the new film, LOOKING THROUGH WATER, which is based on Bob’s novel and is currently streaming on multiple platforms. In an interview with his long-time friend, noted international and Florida Keys fishing guide, Paul Dixon, Bob shared stories about the film’s creation, and noted how difficult it is to shoot a movie on water, using fish. Another filming complication came from the fact that the film crew knew little about fly fishing, so Bob called up Dixon to come down and join them at the Belize film location to ‘teach the guys how to fish.” Bob is the author of five books, including FISH FIGHTS, THE FISHING CLUB, and THE RIGHT ANGLE.
