Volunteers are at the heart of reef restoration, not only because of the work they accomplish, but because of the knowledge and passion they carry with them long after their experience ends.

When asked what they would take away from their time with Reef Renewal USA, one volunteer shared:

"I learned literally 0 to 100% from when I started to when I completed my trip. It has truly inspired me to pass on the education and knowledge that you taught me to others who, just like me, had no idea of the intricacies and importance of coral within ocean ecosystems."

One of our goals is to connect people to coral reefs through hands-on restoration and education. Knowing that volunteers leave with a deeper understanding of these ecosystems and a desire to share that knowledge with others reminds us why this work matters. Thank you to all of the volunteers who have contributed to our mission!

Looking back on an incredible volunteer weekend with the Georgia Aquarium Volunteer Divers through the lens of Linus Augustin. He joined his family for the first time this year on their annual visit, and sent us these beautiful shots of his perspective while cleaning in the coral nursery.

The volunteers got to hang out with Kermit and all the other fish taking refuge in and around the nursery structures where so many baby corals are nurtured. Thank you Linus for capturing and sharing!

Diving into Reef Renewal USA’s nursery is a reminder of the interdependence of marine organisms. From schools of snappers taking shelter under boulder coral trays, to the many tiny invertebrates that you discover when you take a closer look, the nursery is not just for coral (even though it’s the star of the show!)

Meet Sherri's favorite coral! Boulder Brain Coral (CNAT, Colpophyllia natans) is one of several species of corals Reef Renewal USA is raising at our coral farm.

Read why CNAT 38 will always be Sherri's favorite coral on our website news feed, or visit the link in our bio.

From farm to reef, we're growing the corals of the future. Our land based coral farm is one of the largest aquaculture facilities in the world dedicated to growing climate resilient corals. Our corals are being cultivated to survive warmer ocean temperatures.

You can donate to reef renewal usa to help us grow out more coral in this facility, as well as in our off-shore coral nurseries. Head to the link in our bio to learn more about our coral adoption options!

Celebrating World Ocean Day by highlighting our coral outplants, and answering the question: How do we monitor our coral outplants?

One of the ways is through photo monitoring. Divers photograph each individual coral dome so we can track coral growth, survival, and overall health over time.

By revisiting these sites and repeating the process, we’re able to document how our corals are doing on the reef and better understand what contributes to long-term success.

Restoration doesn’t stop once corals are outplanted.. monitoring is a huge part of the process!

Happy World Ocean Day! Let’s plant more coral and rebuild the habitat for one quarter of all marine organisms! Visit the link in our bio or reefrenewalusa.org to learn more.

Happy Friday from the Coral Farm!

Alexandra, Reef Renewal USA Marine Biologist, is wading into our 90,000 gallon tank where resilient corals are enjoying a safe place to grow big and strong for a future on the reef. Soon we'll be expanding into additional tanks at the facility, coral nurseries for thousands of corals. Beyond that, we have the chance for more expansion—there's a lot more room to grow. You can contribute to allow for even more coral growth by donating today!

Collaborations like these foster meaningful results for the future of our reefs.

Each one of these three coral advocates bring their areas of expertise to the tank. Jonathan is well versed in the mechanics and practical aspects of aquaculture. Josh has been working for years on the science and research to better understand the process of rearing corals in captivity. And Roy is one of very few veterinarians in the country who specializes in the health and well-being of hard corals. These three brilliant minds come together to make a stellar team of coral care-takers, the people we need to ensure our future reefs have a chance at recovery!

Our oceans are warmer. Conditions are harsher.
Yesterday’s corals cannot survive tomorrow’s seas.

Through advanced, industrial-scale propagation that includes one of the largest land-based coral farms in the world, Reef Renewal USA is on a mission to produce and outplant the resilient corals of the future at an unprecedented scale.

These baby corals (coral fragments) were recently filmed on a floating structure designed to optimize their growth in our offshore nursery. Before long they will be new members of the future coral reef. Follow us to see their progress!
