The results are in!

The winners of the 2026 Discover Coral Reefs Program: New Wave who had the highest increase in quiz scores goes to... Plantation Key School! The were a new addition to the New Wave program this year and received a 49% increase in quiz scores between the pre and post testing this year. The average increase of all eight participating schools was 32% !

Reef Relief uses the pre and post testing method to help monitor the retention of our New Wave participants and measure the effectiveness of our teaching methods. Thank you to all the schools who participated in our DCRSP programs this year!🌊🪸

We love Rock The Ocean and Tortuga Music Festival!!!

What better time to highlight an incredible coral partner than on World Reef Awareness Day? 🪸🌊
Meet Reef Relief, an organization dedicated to protecting and restoring coral reefs through science, education, advocacy, and community-driven conservation efforts.

Today also marks the start of their annual Coral Camp for kids, a 9-week summer program that gives children the opportunity to explore the marine environments of the Florida Keys through hands-on science, conservation activities, snorkeling, eco-tours, and more.
We’re especially excited that, through support from Rock The Ocean and Tortuga, two local students were able to attend camp this year through scholarship opportunities 💙

Rock The Ocean is proud to partner with Reef Relief and support the important work they do inspiring the next generation of ocean advocates to protect our reefs for the future.

Happy World Reef Day! 🪸💙

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet they support nearly 25% of all marine life. These incredible ecosystems protect our shorelines, support local economies, and provide habitat for countless species, but they need our help now more than ever.

You can make a difference by:
🪸 Using ocean friendly sunscreen
🪸 Reducing single-use plastics
🪸 Properly disposing of fishing line and trash
🪸 Conserving water and reducing pollution
🪸 Supporting local conservation efforts and volunteering in your community

At Reef Relief, we work year-round to protect and preserve our coral reefs through education, marine debris cleanups, storm drain stenciling, community outreach, coral reef awareness programs, and hands-on conservation initiatives that inspire the next generation of ocean stewards.

This World Reef Day, join us in taking action for the reefs that give so much to our communities. Every small action adds up to a healthier ocean for future generations.

We had such a great time with students from Sugarloaf School at Dry Tortugas National Park!

Another trip for the books, full of fun and learning! From snorkeling to touring historic Fort Jefferson, students get a once in a lifetime experience through our Discover Coral Reefs New Wave program. Through these experiences, students are able to take what they’ve learned in our lessons and see the importance of marine ecosystems not only in our local waters, but all the way out to the Dry Tortugas. 🪸🐠

Students also had the opportunity to explore a variety of ecosystems and habitats that support many different marine species. From snapper to cowfish, students got the chance to see tons of amazing wildlife firsthand!

Another great trip to Dry Tortugas National Park this year! 🌊☀️

We had an awesome time this past week with students from Horace O'Bryant exploring historic Fort Jefferson and snorkeling the beautiful surrounding waters.

Students had the opportunity to see all sorts of wildlife and experience these incredible marine ecosystems firsthand. It’s always exciting to watch students connect what they’ve learned throughout the school year in our Discover Coral Reefs New Wave Program to real world experiences, making the trip even more meaningful and memorable. 🪸🐠
