📣 GRATITUDE 🙏 — to the Commissioners who voted this morning to reaffirm the City of Key West's longstanding One Ship Policy; and to officially transmit to the U.S. Navy the City’s 13-year history of referendums, resolutions, and ordinances regarding large cruise ship operations in our waterways. This prompt notification to Naval leadership during a time of transition at the Outer Mole ensures that our City is speaking with one voice, in step with community concerns.

Special thanks to Commissioner Sam Kaufman for his leadership on this important issue. We are stronger when we work together.

Extra-special thanks to YOU, the citizens who continue to participate in the public process, even when it doesn't always go your way. The City Clerk received over 100 written public comments from local residents in support of this resolution. Your voices carry. You make a difference in our future.

Imagine THREE large cruise ships a day in Key West — with 3× the impacts to water quality and 3× the overcrowding we see on ship days now. That used to be our reality. The One Ship Policy, passed unanimously in 2022, directs ships away from the Outer Mole and Mallory Dock and establishes a maximum limit of ONE ship per day. Now that the City has lost day-to-day control over the Outer Mole, it is imperative to communicate City policy to the Navy in a timely, respectful, and clear manner. Commissioner Kaufman's resolution does exactly that. We call on all Commissioners and candidates to support this important proposal at Wednesday's meeting.
