Last week, the operations of the only low barrier emergency shelter in Monroe County officially moved their operations to a temporary site adjacent to the old shelter site. We are so encouraged by this move, as it is one step closer to the new facility! Special thanks to the City of Key West -- Government and their Community Services Department, the Monroe County Sheriffs Office, and our hard working staff for making this such a smooth process. Below you can see pictures of the empty site. We have much hope for the future!

Big News!!! Many thanks to the Mayor, City Commission, City Managers Office, City Engineering Department, Bill Horn Architects, and all the community members and organizations that have supported Cornerstone and this project! We are so grateful and cannot wait for this provision to become reality for our staff and clients. Please consider a tax deductible donation through the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys fund for the new shelter.

Through a grant from the Monroe County Continuum of Care, Cornerstone Resource Alliance has rental and utility assistance available for those who have been impacted by COVID-19 and are unable to pay their rent/utilities. Friday 10/8/2021 @ 11am the City of Key West will hold the 3rd public hearing on their CDBG-CV grant application for the construction of a new homeless shelter. The homeless shelter is in need of towels, so if you or anyone you know have some to donate, please drop them by the shelter (5537 College Rd). If you can't donate, please share!

Shelter Monitors are required to:
• Search Client Bags and Property for Contraband.
• Continuously monitor operations and client behavior.
• Maintain appropriate logs and check-in/out documents.
• Apply disciplinary action in accordance with the Client Behavioral Policy.
• Ensure client and staff safety at all times.
• Stand and be mobile for long periods of time.
• Ensure all policies and guidelines are being adhered to by clients.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager or Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Candidate should possess strong communication skills and have the ability to deescalate situations. A sense of responsibility and the ability to be on time is necessary. Some computer skills are preferred but not a pre-requisite for eligibility.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
This position deals directly with Homeless Individuals and enforcement of facility rules. Applicants MUST be able to work Holidays, varying shifts, and weekends.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay donates bicycle racks to KOTS

Sheriff Rick Ramsay and the Sheriff’s Office donated two bicycle racks to the Keys Overnight Temporary Shelter on Thursday.

The area where KOTS residents keep their bicycles was full and congested, creating an access problem as well as an eye sore.

“There was a need as there were way more bicycles than places for residents to safely store and lock them,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “These new racks should keep the area free of clutter as well as give residents more access.”

Elicia Pintabona, the President of Cornerstone Resource Alliance — the group administering KOTS — said the racks were a welcome addition.

“We had so many bicycles not on racks that was an ongoing challenge to clean and organize the area,” she said.

The racks cost approximately $1,200 including shipping and were paid out of the Sheriff’s Office general fund.
