We had such a fun few days with Seacrest Country Day School, and their mangrove field trip gave us plenty to talk about 🌿🐬

Out on the water, students experienced the mangrove ecosystem up close while learning why these habitats are so important here in the Florida Keys. From providing shelter and nursery habitat for marine life to helping protect our shorelines, there’s a lot happening in and around those tangled roots 🌱

And as if the day wasn’t already good enough, they had a surprise visit from a few dolphins along the way! Definitely one of those MarineLab moments you can’t exactly plan for 🤩🐬

Our new instructors have been busy training and getting ready for another season of student programs! 🌊🐠

A big part of that preparation is making sure everyone is confident and prepared on the water. Our staff have been practicing rescue drills, life raft deployment, and emergency procedures, while also working on the communication and teamwork it takes to respond safely and efficiently.

And boat training is just one piece of it! They’ve also been learning MarineLab curriculum, practicing the labs and activities they’ll teach, and getting familiar with the programs our students experience while they’re here 😎👏

Key Largo School traded the classroom for the coral reef! 🌊🪸

Seventh graders recently joined us at MarineLab for a day of snorkeling, reef exploration, and water quality testing, putting what they’ve been learning in class into practice out on the water 🤿
Their visit was part of our Coral Reef Classroom, a two-part program designed for local seventh graders. MarineLab instructors first visit students at school to introduce corals, reef habitats, and the connections between our local ecosystems. Then, students come to MarineLab to take that learning out onto the reef and experience it for themselves.

This program is made possible with support from the Ocean Reef Conservation Association, helping give local students the chance to learn about and experience the marine environment in their own backyard 💙

We loved having the River School teachers join us for our Teacher Workshop! 🌊🪸

It’s always exciting to see educators take what they learn at MarineLab back to their own students and classrooms. And we definitely like the sound of a future River School field trip 👀🐠

We loved having Saint Mark’s Episcopal School’s 7th graders with us at MarineLab! 🌊🤿🔬

From lab activities to snorkeling through mangrove and coral reef habitats, it was such a fun few days of learning, exploring, and experiencing the Florida Keys firsthand.
