Our Spring 2026 Marine Education & Conservation Interns just wrapped up an amazing semester with REEF. From running education programs for busloads of students and counting fish during this year's record-breaking Lionfish Derby, to welcoming visitors to our Ocean Exploration Center and helping us out with countless behind the scenes tasks at our Key Largo campus.

Now Stacie Strombom, Anna Hoover and Avery Kruger are on to new adventures in education, research and conservation management.

We're also sending off two Marine Education & Conservation Fellows. Anna Velardi and Sammy Brown, former REEF Interns themselves, have spent recent months gaining hands-on experience and professional development in marine conservation and the day-to-day operation of an environmental non-profit organization. Anna Velardi helped develop new grant, event and education programs at our Ocean Exploration Center. Sammy Brown supported program and communications work managing social media and outreach material development.

Thank you for everything you've poured into REEF's education and conservation work. We wish you all the best in what comes next.

Surfrider Foundation's network of more than 200 volunteer-powered chapters work across virtually every stretch of coastline in the US to reduce plastic pollution in our ocean and beaches, ensure clean water to surf, swim, and play in, protect the ocean, preserve beach access, and enhance the resilience of our coasts to a changing climate.

In this presentation, Emma will share more about what Surfrider is doing to protect coastlines from the Florida Keys to California, and everywhere in between. From hands-on coastal restoration work to leading coastal adaptation and managed retreat projects to advancing policy that protects and restores our most treasured coastal and ocean habitats, Surfrider is working to protect our coasts for future generations through the Coasts and Climate Initiative.

Today we say a bittersweet goodbye to Carolyn Corley.

Carolyn's REEF story is a special one. She arrived as our 2023 Dr. Jamie L. King Marine Conservation Intern through Our World Underwater Scholarship Society, stayed on as a Marine Conservation Fellow, and grew into a valued Education Coordinator and a true leader on our team.

In her time on staff, Carolyn organized the Florida Keys Lionfish Derby, brought our Fish Out of Water 5K to life, and launched the Ocean After Hours program at the Ocean Exploration Center. She wrote the REEF Junior Explorer guidebook that now sends young explorers on adventures through our exhibits.

She also held down so much of the everyday work that keeps REEF moving, leading trips, running the REEF Store, organizing trip materials, and writing donor letters. And as a former intern herself, she shaped our internship program with a rare thoughtfulness, making sure every intern had the kind of transformative experience she once had.

But what we'll miss most is harder to put in a list: her positive attitude, her cooperative spirit, and the way she made everyone around her better.

Thank you, Carolyn, for everything you gave REEF. We can't wait to see where you go next.
