Join the fun at the Annual Haunted Hike at Bill Baggs State Park on Saturday, October 24!

We’re looking for teams to design and haunt their very own Spooky Spot along the Bayside Trail. Go creepy, kooky, spooky or downright chilling - and help transform the trail into a one-of-a-kind Halloween adventure for hundreds of brave hikers. ☠️

Heather and Katherine may be new to volunteering with Florida State Parks, but you would never know it! Since joining us at the beginning of the summer, they have each contributed more than 250 hours to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

Heather has been holding down the fort at the ranger station, stepping in to cover shifts whenever needed. Her flexibility and extensive customer service experience have made her a true ranger station star!

Katherine has served as our seasonal lighthouse keeper, conducting tours nearly every weekend since June. Her enthusiasm for the role and willingness to help wherever needed have made her an absolute joy to have on the team.

Thank you, Heather and Katherine, for your adaptability, dedication and willingness to go above and beyond. We feel fortunate to be part of the beginning of your Florida State Parks journey, and we sincerely hope you find your way back to us!

Join Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Friends of Cape Florida for the 41st International Coastal Cleanup, the world’s largest one-day volunteer effort for our oceans and waterways! 🌊

Together, we’ll remove trash and marine debris from the park’s beaches and grounds, helping protect local wildlife and keep this beautiful place welcoming for everyone.

Buckets, bags, pickers and sifters will be provided. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a reusable water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray. Park entry fees will be waived. Just let the ranger station know you are participating in the cleanup.

Thirty-four years ago today, Hurricane Andrew made landfall in South Florida, forever changing our community and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

The Category 5 storm flattened the Australian pine forest that once dominated the park, damaged facilities, and forced Cape Florida to remain closed for a year.

The landscape was nearly unrecognizable.

Its recovery became a labor of hope.

Alongside park staff, scores of dedicated volunteers contributed countless hours to clearing debris, planting native vegetation and helping restore the park’s coastal habitats. Their hard work and commitment played an essential role in transforming a devastated landscape into the natural sanctuary we cherish today.

On this anniversary, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Friends of Cape Florida remember the devastation, honor everyone who helped rebuild and celebrate nature’s remarkable ability to recover.

Volunteer Spotlight: Bryan & Nicole💚🌿

Bryan and Nicole may be new to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park this year, but they’ve been generously contributing their time and talents to Florida State Parks for nearly two years, accumulating almost 3,000 combined volunteer hours!

Since joining us in May, they quickly found their place in the park’s rhythm and stepped up during some especially challenging moments this summer. True jacks of all trades, they’ve tackled a variety of maintenance projects and welcomed visitors at the ranger station with warmth and enthusiasm.

Thank you, Bryan and Nicole, for your hard work, versatility, and dedication to Florida’s state parks. We’re so grateful you chose to spend part of your volunteer journey with us, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming you back! 💛☀️

No experience is needed, just curiosity and excitement about our natural world! Participants will watch one plant for 15 minutes and record every insect that lands on it.

Prefer to share your love of the lighthouse and its history from indoors? Become a Keeper’s Cottage Attendant! Volunteers welcome visitors and assist with the Friends of Cape Florida gift shop.

Congratulations on an incredible volunteer milestone!🎉 Joe has dedicated 5,000 volunteer hours to supporting Florida’s state parks, and his wife, Jeannine, has contributed an amazing 3,000+ hours!

Since 2020, Joe and Jeannine have returned to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park year after year, generously volunteering through our beautiful winter months and our hottest summer days. From maintenance and special events to visitor services, their dedication has made a lasting impact throughout the park.
