Turtle nesting season is off to an incredible start!🐢 We already have 45 sea turtle nests in the park, and it's shaping up to be a record-breaking season! 🎉 Here are photos of the first 20 adopted nests.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has adopted a nest - and to those who will soon join us. Your support directly helps protect sea turtles and supports our conservation efforts throughout the park.💚

🐢 Individual and Corporate Adopt-A-Nest opportunities are available!

As turtle season continues, please remember to help keep our beaches safe:

🐢 Leave it Clean – Remove all trash and belongings before leaving the beach.
🐢 Keep it Dark – Lights can disorient nesting turtles and hatchlings. If you live on the beach, close curtains and turn off exterior lights at night.
🐢 Leave it Flat – Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles so turtles can safely navigate the beach.

Together, we can help make this another successful nesting season! 🐢💙

Larger than life and found almost exclusively in South Florida and the Keys, these majestic birds remind us just how special and wild our coastal habitats still are. Moments like these are why protecting places like Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park matters.

Friends of Cape Florida was thrilled to be part of Earth Fest 2026, hosted by the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center at Paradise Park in the Village of Key Biscayne.🌎✨

This special event marked the debut of our Cape Chronicles Mobile Museum Kiosk, and what a debut it was!

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Museum Committee, led by Christian Hosford and Elizabeth Costa Rusch, for bringing this vision to life. From the stunning booth design and immersive history vignettes by Studio Hosford to the innovative HoloPOD featuring a hologram of Bill Baggs, the experience truly transported visitors through time.

In a memorable highlight, William Calhoun Baggs “appeared” to address guests, sharing his powerful message about the importance of civic engagement and protecting our natural spaces.

We also loved connecting with our first group of Cape Chronicles Celebrities - community members whose stories help shape the legacy of Cape Florida. Thank you to Eric Lang and his daughter Mila, Pat Romano, Betty Sime, Don Sackrider, Ale Fadel, Allene Nicholson, Joan Gill Blank, Rumya Sundaram!🌴💙

And what a show! Event Chair Julie Bracken, Education Committee Chair Eliza, and FOCF volunteer Katrin Waples lit up the runway in the Recycled Fashion Show 👗♻️

Finally, a huge THANK YOU to the many volunteers who helped imagine, build, and bring this event to life - especially those who powered through the heat for setup and breakdown. We couldn’t do it without you!

• Turn off or shield beachfront lights at night
• If you see an adult sea turtle nesting, stay FAR away.

🐢 Get Involved - Adopt a Nest!
You can make a direct impact by adopting a sea turtle nest right here in the park. Your support helps fund daily monitoring, protection efforts, and conservation education that keeps these nests safe from harm.

Rainy days = buffet time for our feathered friends 🌧️🐦

At Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, shorebirds actually *love* a little wet weather. Here’s why:

Rain softens the sand, bringing hidden snacks right to the surface. With fewer beachgoers around and clouds keeping temperatures cooler, it’s the perfect opportunity for birds to forage with less stress and more success.

So next time the skies turn gray, take a stroll and keep an eye on the shoreline. You might spot sandpipers, plovers, and other coastal birds happily feasting in the rain.

Nature doesn’t pause for weather… it thrives in it. 🌊💚

A Poem for St Patrick's Day!🌈🍀

Our park by the sea, so fair,
Bill Baggs with salt in the air 🌊
The lighthouse stands tall,
A gem loved by all,
Where rainbows and sunshine we share ☘️

From Cape Florida’s tip to the shore,
Friends gather for stories and more,
With laughter and cheer,
On St. Paddy’s this year,
We’re grateful for all we adore.💚

Happy St. Patty's Day!
