Presidents Letter:
Dear KBWC Members,
The pandemic has changed the world and our society. Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and suffered other losses. Not related to Covid, but also profound losses, two of our devoted members, Dottie Devaney Goldman and Staria Petersen experienced the passing of their dear husbands, Carl and Pete. No doubt there are other members who are grieving and we pray for you and your comfort.
This is the time we need our friends and community like no other. I've heard from quite a few members that it's time to meet, sensibly, of course. We've come up with a plan and I hope that those who feel comfortable with the plan will join in. Dottie Devaney Goldman has offered to host the KBWC for a SUNSET COCKTAIL PARTY on Thursday, November 12th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. It will be outdoors on her patio and backyard which will allow plenty of space to be socially distanced, with masks. It will be a BYOB :bring your own bottle, or appetizer appropriate for such a socially distanced party. More details of the meet and greet will follow.
Dues: We ask you to please pay your Dues for our fiscal year 6/1/20 – 5/31/21. Dues are primarily used for charitable organizations and scholarships. This year we gave out $2,600 to the following charitable organizations: Miami Bridge, the KB Girl Scouts, Save our Sisters in Key Biscayne, New Life Family Center and Southeastern Guide Dogs. We gave out $14,000 in July 2020 to 6 outstanding Key Biscayne students. We have granted over 170 scholarships since 1958. Awarding these scholarships is the heart and soul of our Club. (see following Dues attachment)
Pecans: Fredda Levitt will continue to spearhead the sale of Pecans! This will be one of our few fundraisers for the year, due to the circumstances, so please participate and reach out to Fredda at [email protected]. More information will follow but we need purchasers as well as saleswomen.
A bake sale for December is in the planning stages, and Dawn Cromartie will do a super job as she always does.
Grace Lang offered to manage our “We Care Notes”, an important outreach to support our members. Contact Grace and ask her to send a We Care Note when appropriate to lift a member's spirit, offer condolences, say thank you or celebrate a member's success. Grace Lang’s contact information is email: [email protected] and phone: (305) 361-1876.
Please be sure to read through the entire newsletter and catch our new feature: In Touch Twenty – Twenty created by Christine Svendsen. We hope you like it.
Yours truly,
Shayna Lopate
President
