Today was release day for my remaining Eastern cottontail rabbits! 🐇❤️

After weeks and weeks of syringe feeding these tiny babies under the care of Wanakia Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center in Richfield, Wisconsin, they’re finally big enough to return to the wild where they belong.

It’s bittersweet to say goodbye, but so rewarding knowing I was part of their journey. I’ll miss them dearly!

An Update on Our Beautiful Fern ❤️

We wanted to wait before updating you on our beautiful girl Fern, as she had a bit of a turn last week and we needed to see how she was doing.

As you may remember, Fern was found on the streets of Alexandria, Egypt, howling in pain. She is now in hospital in Cairo, where the team has been working hard to find out what is causing the fluid to build up in her chest.

The fluid they drained appeared to be chyle, meaning there was likely a leak in her lymphatic system. A significant amount had to be drained to relieve the pressure and help her breathe, but the worry was that it could continue to build up.

Fern was weak, had very little appetite and needed medication and supportive care while the vets carried out further tests, including X-rays, blood tests and an echocardiogram.

Thankfully, we now have some really encouraging news. ❤️

Fern’s echocardiogram showed no evidence of a heart problem, tumour, or anything similar causing the fluid.

Dr. Mohamed believes the trauma Fern suffered may have damaged her lymphatic system, causing the leak. While this is still serious, it is a much more hopeful explanation than some of the possibilities we had feared.

Her latest X-ray also showed that the fluid is decreasing. There is still some present, but it is going down rather than building back up. This is a very positive sign. 🙏

The vets have added another medication, and Fern will also need a low-fat diet. She is currently eating gastrointestinal food, and we’re waiting to hear which low-fat food they recommend — hopefully one our little lady will actually agree to eat!

For now, Fern is stable and doing well, and after everything she has been through, we are incredibly grateful. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who has been thinking of her, asking for updates and supporting her journey. Please keep sending all your love and positive thoughts to our brave girl. She has already fought so hard, and we are hoping this is the beginning of a much brighter chapter for Fern. ❤️🐾

A Heartfelt Thank You to Michael & Laurie ❤️🐾

A huge thank you to two amazing stray dog supporters, Michael and Laurie, who have two of our Egypt dogs and so generously donated to help our partner’s CART get much-needed water to the shelter in the desert in Cairo, Egypt.

With temperatures soaring well above 100°F, these dogs were at risk of having no drinking water or a way to cool off in their pools. As you can see, they must have known exactly what was coming—they ran straight to the water and then immediately headed for the pools for some much-needed relief. 💦🐕

We are incredibly grateful for Michael and Laurie’s kindness. We could not have done this without them, and their generosity will help keep the dogs at CART safe and hydrated while the permanent water project is completed. ❤️

Run Free Sweet Iza 🌈🐾

This is a very difficult post to write. It has taken me a full day to process the news that we lost our precious Iza.

Despite surviving the physical battle of being brutalized as a meat trade survivor, Iza’s body had suffered internal damage that was silently ravaging her. As strong as she was, she could not fight what was happening inside her.

Iza was such a very special girl, and we are absolutely heartbroken that she did not survive. 💔 She deserved so much more, and we will always be grateful that she was given the chance to experience love, care, and kindness.

Thank you to everyone who supported Iza, donated, shared her story, prayed for her, and gave her a chance. Your kindness meant everything.

Our partners at paraiso_ni_kimay_fur_sanctuary in the Philippines are, of course, devastated to have shared this heartbreaking news with us. We are holding them close in our thoughts as they grieve this very special girl.

Rest in peace, sweet angel Iza. You were loved. You mattered. You will never be forgotten. 🌈🐾❤️

Please meet Bonnie and Clyde, two sweet siblings rescued as orphans from Kolkata, India, after their mom was tragically killed.

Now boarding safely in Delhi, these two are growing up fast and are looking for sponsors to help keep them safe, cared for, and protected as they continue their journey.

Bringing Water To The Desert - But We Still Need You

We want to share an update on the water infrastructure project at CART in Egypt — but we also need to be transparent: the water crisis is not over yet.

With support from SPCA International , a permanent water system is being built for the entire shelter. A new reservoir has been constructed, the property connected to the municipal Nile water line, a pump and filtration house built, and the water pipeline is being extended throughout the property.

This is a HUGE step forward. But due to significant price increases, rising construction costs & other mitigating factors, the project has taken longer and cost more than anticipated. It is not yet complete.

Until the permanent system is operational, CART must continue relying on water trucks to fill the dogs’ drinking bowls.

And right now, the situation is critical.

Temperatures in the Egyptian desert are well above 100°F, with hundreds of dogs living in this extreme heat. We are desperately trying to secure enough water for their bowls and to fill their pools so they have at least some opportunity to cool down.

CART currently needs approximately $1,800 USD to pay for previous water deliveries and secure water for this month.

Unfortunately, because the shelter has been unable to secure the necessary funding, the water supplier will not provide additional water until the outstanding balance is paid.

Hundreds of dogs are now facing the desert heat without reliable access to water.

The permanent solution is underway, but we cannot wait for construction to finish. These dogs need water now.

💧 OUR IMMEDIATE GOAL: $1,800 FOR WATER

Every donation helps put water into a bowl, refill a pool, and give a dog in the Egyptian heat a chance to drink and cool down.

Please help us keep water flowing to CART while we work toward completing the permanent system. The dogs cannot wait.
