ERC Sun Valley Providing education and inspiring action to cultivate a healthy environment.

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) is an environmental non-profit based in the Wood River Valley of South Central Idaho. Through environmental education, the ERC is committed to creating a healthier community and environment - the environment upon which our Valley's health, well-being and economy directly depend. The ERC works specifically in:

1) Youth education - in school, after school an

d summer programs.

2) Pesticide Action - reducing the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers

3) Recycling Outreach and Action with Blaine County's recycling program, 5B Recycles.

4) Pick Up for the Planet (PUP) - a dog waste pickup program

5) Connecting People to Nature - a series of programs that give residents and visitors an opportunity to develop a deeper sense of place.

Another great bike to work & school day in the books! Good work to all who biked through the cool morning. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the smiling and happy faces at our stop! Hope it was a great morning for all, we’re already looking forward to next year 🤝

BUG ZOO 🐞🐛🦟

It’s time for SBG’s annual Bug Zoo Festival! Pop over to the garden on May 16th from 11am-2pm for lots of fun with hands-on educational activities in a festival atmosphere. There will be interactive exhibits, live critters, fun activities, face painting, Adopt a “Bug” animal adoptions with Mountain Humane, food for sale and much more! Entrance tickets: adults $10, youth 3-18 years $5, and littles 0-3 years free.

Meet Erica, our PUP & Recycling Program Manager

Erica brings incredible passion and purpose to her work, she’ll be the first to tell you just how important dog waste pick-up and recycling are to the health of our community and environment. Under her leadership, the ERC has made meaningful strides in both areas, creating real, lasting impact.

An avid skier and global adventurer, Erica has worked in all corners of the world, including helping Dr. Jane Goodall launch an environmental education program in Africa.

Looking to get involved and make a difference? Erica would love to help you jump in!

The snow is melted, the birds are chirping - it must mean that it’s time for Clean Sweep! The ERC’s annual valley wide trash pick up.

We’re celebrating 30 years of Clean Sweep this year!

If this will be your first year joining in, Clean Sweep is a great family-friendly way to get outside and give back to the environment. We provide the bags and the drop off sites, and you pick up litter throughout the valley. It’s a spring clean up we can all enjoy.

Si este es tu primer año participando, la Limpieza es una excelente manera para que toda la familia disfrute del aire libre y cuide el medio ambiente. Nosotros proporcionamos las bolsas y los puntos de recogida, y tú recoges la basura por todo el valle. Es una limpieza de primavera que todos podemos disfrutar.

Meet JP, our Hut Meister

While newer to the Environmental Resource Center, JP’s roots in the hut system run deep, dating back to 2010 when he first started as an intern. Over the years, he’s guided ski and rock trips throughout Idaho’s central mountains all while helping steward and care for the huts along the way.

An AMGA-certified ski and rock guide, JP brings a deep passion for mountain weather and a keen understanding of how it shapes avalanche conditions. With degrees in Outdoor Education and Biology, his approach to guiding, teaching, and land stewardship is grounded in both science and experience.

When the ERC acquired the hut system, it marked a true full-circle moment. Today, JP is focused on the long-term health of the huts, continuing to shape them as outdoor classrooms where people can connect with and learn from the landscapes that make year-round mountain recreation possible.

Every day is Earth Day at the ERC, and today we celebrate double. At the ERC we celebrate by cultivating a healthier environment through education and inspiring action. Our after school programs, PUP at trail heads and in our community collaborations we work to give back to this wonderful place we all get to call home.
