The installed sirens will be tested at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. This is only a test. It provides an important way to test system operations and remind the public what sirens sound like when activated. Thank you for your support as we work to strengthen emergency preparedness.

After everything the Guadalupe valley has been through in the past 10 months, we have incredible news to share with you, on the first full weekend of summer.

Fifteen camps in Kerr and Kendall Counties are open!

That is not a small achievement. In the wake of the 2025 floods, getting here took determination, patience, and an enormous amount of hard work from camp directors, staff, and volunteers who refused to give up on the kids and families who count on them every year.

We also want to take a moment to genuinely thank the Texas Department of State Health Services. Their team worked tirelessly alongside local facilities, providing the feedback, conducting the inspections, and issuing the licenses camps needed to operate safely and on time. They showed up for our camps, and it made a difference.

Camping matters. It matters to kids who grow and discover who they are in the outdoors. It matters to families who have made these hills part of their story for generations. And it matters to this community, which depends on the life and spirit these camps bring every summer.

Camping is also a cornerstone of who we are in Kerr County, and helps keep our community strong and our economy thriving. Generations of Texans have grown up with camping deep in their soul, and the Hill Country has always been the place where that tradition lives and breathes.

KERR AND KENDALL COUNTY CAMPING IS BACK.

Welcome back. We are so glad you are here!

The team from Search & Support San Antonio is one of two teams doing awesome work in our river basin to enhance safety for swimmers and boaters as we enter the summer outdoor season. This effort is methodically working through popular swimming areas throughout the area, and we're proud to be part of making this happen for our community! Thank you to H-E-B for their financial support and our friends at Search & Support San Antonio and the Rampart Vigilance Foundation for being the boots and regulators on the ground - and in the water.

YOUTH SUMMER OPPORTUNITY

The Texas Hill Country Youth Media Initiative builds on a pilot program launched in Los Angeles after the 2025 wildfires called the Wildfire Youth Media Initiative. During the summer program, 18 high school students documented their communities’ experiences through interviews, podcasts, video and an archive at the Los Angeles Public Library. Participants described the program as both educational and therapeutic, helping them process their experiences while connecting with others. They created an advisory council upon the conclusion of the program and requested to bring this youth-led community storytelling model to the Texas Hill Country. Several of those students will serve as teaching assistants for this initiative.

Checking in on y’all, Hill Country…. Anyone feeling overwhelmed? Anxious? Confused? Sad? Angry? Not feeling anything at all? Wondering if this is normal or worrying if you will ever be okay again?

Y’all have experienced a devastating tragedy! Feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, confusion, sadness, anger, and even numbness are all common following disasters and stressful events.

You matter! Help is here!

There is no time frame for healing and each of us have been affected in very different ways; There is not a “one size fits all” approach to recovery. Please know you don’t have to go through this journey of healing alone! Professional, compassionate counseling provided by Lisa Cisneros of Hill Country MHDD Centers is available on Tuesdays, 9-4, at Kerr Together office, located at 98 Coronado, Kerrville, Texas.

Reaching out is a brave first step. I’m here to listen and walk beside you on your healing journey.

Lisa is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in the State of Texas with extensive training and experience in assessing and treating youth and adults who have mental health symptoms or have experienced stressful or traumatic situations.

Congratulations to our own Theresa Metcalf for her recognition as one of the The Kerr County Lead's "Women of Distinction." She's a vital part of our efforts, and has done amazing work with a huge heart for this community!

"Metcalf was recognized for a decade of supporting Kerrville's small businesses and economic development. After the July 4 flood, nominators said she immediately flew back to Kerr County, relocated her family, and spent days sitting with community members to find recovery resources. "She champions the Kerr County community pushing for more adequate answers, creative solutions, and holding organizations accountable," one nominator wrote."

Coming to Kerrville on May 14th!

From the Directors:

In the early hours of July 4th, 2025, catastrophic flash flooding swept through the Texas Hill Country. The river rose more than 37 feet in a matter of hours, and entire communities along its banks were forever changed. The grief that followed reached every corner of the region, touching families, neighbors, and a way of life rooted in the river itself.

In the days that followed, an extraordinary response unfolded. Search and rescue teams, volunteers, and organizations from across the state and the nation converged on the Hill Country to stand with those affected. The river itself bore deep scars: an estimated 52% of riparian vegetation in Kerr County was lost, and roughly 1.8 million cubic tons of debris had to be cleared from its banks.

Hope for the Guadalupe follows the biologists, landowners, and conservationists working together to restore the river through native planting, seed distribution, and long-term land stewardship. Together, the community is coming together to replant cypress, sycamore, and native grasses and sedges that hold the banks in place.

As the land and river begin to recover, so too do the people who call it home.
