The Big Fix Homeless Cat Project

The Big Fix Homeless Cat Project The Big Fix is a 501c3 non-profit serving Kerr County, Texas. We trap cats to be spayed/neutered and get a rabies vaccine.

The Big Fix is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization that was founded in May of 2005. Our mission is to humanely reduce the number of feral and homeless cats in Kerr County by trapping them, getting them sterilized, vaccinating them against rabies and returning them to their colony where they will continue to be fed and cared for. This strategy is called T-N-R or trap-neuter-return. This

strategy is endorsed by a number of well-respected animal organizations such as The Humane Society of the United States and Alley Cat Allies.

If you feed outdoor cats, especially in public places, please remember that small choices can make a big difference in keeping them safe and ensuring they can continue to be cared for long-term. ๐Ÿพ

โ–ถ๏ธ Can the food be eaten within 30 minutes?
โŒ If not, leftover food may attract wildlife or other animals that could pose a danger to the cats. What begins as an act of kindness can unintentionally create new risks for them.

โ–ถ๏ธ Is there trash left behind, like paper plates or empty cans?
โŒ Public feeding areas that become messy often lead to complaints. Keeping the space clean and respectful helps protect feeding spots and prevents conflict with the community.

โ–ถ๏ธ Is your feeding setup drawing attention to the cats?
โŒ Not everyone values outdoor cats the way rescuers and caretakers do. Quiet, discreet feeding can help keep colonies safer from harm and unwanted attention.

โŒ Please avoid feeding cats directly out of cans. The edges are sharp and have the potential to cause injury.

Loving community cats means more than feeding themโ€”it means protecting them, respecting shared spaces, and helping ensure they can continue to be cared for tomorrow. โค๏ธ

We will have to Check the Anogenital Distance to differentiate between Male and Female Kitten.

MALE Kitten:
The Ge***al opening of male cat is round, like a small dot (.)

Distance between a**s and opening is longer, around 1 inch

Adult intact males have visible testicles in a pouch between a**s and p***s

FEMALE Kitten:
Ge***al opening is a vertical slit, like the letter "i".

Distance between a**s and opening is very short, almost touching.

PRO Tip:
Compare two kittens, check them side by side. The difference in spacing between a**s and genitalia becomes super obvious.

IMPORTANT Points:
It is really difficult in kittens under 4 to 6 weeks. We will have to wait till theyโ€™re a bit older if youโ€™re unsure.

One of our Big Fix board members, Ludie Garcia, attended the Ribbon Cutting of the new KCAC center this past week. The turnout was very good, and at least 100 people were there including folks from KPA, Texad Round-Up Animal Alliance, and Freeman-Fritts. The new facility is massive in size and the upgrade is much appreciated for our community animals and animal control officers alike!
