Since the 2026 Kerrville flood, so many of our neighbors have experienced heartbreaking and extensive property damage. Our hearts ache for every family affected.

The response from outside our community has been much different than it was following the 2025 flood, but we are incredibly grateful for the generous local support that has allowed Sisters in Service to help several families in need.

In the days immediately following the flood, we began delivering meals from Mercy Chefs. As we served each day, unfamiliar faces quickly became familiar ones—and those connections grew into friendships we will cherish for a lifetime. We prayed with our neighbors, listened to their stories, shared tears and offered hope during some of their most difficult days.

On Sunday, August 9, through the generosity of our donors, Sisters in Service had the privilege and honor of providing funds to help several of our neighbors rebuild their homes. Seeing their smiles and happy tears filled our hearts with overwhelming joy.
God is so good! Thank you to every donor, volunteer and supporter who made this possible. Together, we are reminding our neighbors that they are seen, loved and not alone.

As another school year begins, Sisters in Service was honored to partner with the Salvation Army for our Backpack & Shoe Drive!

55 high school students received a brand-new backpack filled with school essentials, including binders, folders, notebook paper, pencils, colored pencils, pens, glue sticks, highlighters, and a special prayer heart. Each student also received a brand-new pair of shoes to help them start the school year with confidence.

A heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who helped stuff backpacks and deliver them to the Salvation Army. Your willingness to serve is such a blessing to our community.

A very special thank you goes to our committee chairs, Susie and Kimber, for your countless hours of organizing, shopping, and graciously opening your homes to host this project.

We pray these students know they are loved, encouraged, and covered in prayer as they begin a new school year.

Friday was a difficult day as we said goodbye to so many familiar faces from Mercy Chefs.

Our entire community has been incredibly blessed to have this amazing organization serving alongside us since the July 4, 2025 flood. Mercy Chefs has shown us true compassion and demonstrated what it means to love your neighbor.

They have prepared and served thousands upon thousands of hot, delicious meals to anyone in need, offering not only nourishment but also hope, kindness, and encouragement during one of the most challenging seasons our community has faced.

Their volunteers have been the hands and feet of Jesus, faithfully serving others with humility, grace, and unwavering love. Their impact on Kerr County will never be forgotten.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Mercy Chefs, for every meal served, every smile shared, every prayer offered, and every life touched. You have been a tremendous blessing to our community, and we are forever grateful.

It has been an honor for Sisters in Service to partner with you in serving God's people. We pray God richly blesses each of you as you continue your mission of bringing hope, healing, and the love of Christ to communities across the country.

Even in the Texas heat, our Sisters in Service volunteers kept our spirits high, our smiles bright, and our hearts focused on sharing God's love as we delivered hot meals from Mercy Chefs today.❤️ Thank you to the Hallberg's!

As this chapter of serving alongside Mercy Chefs begins to wind down, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for everything they have done for our community since the 2025 flood. For more than a year, they have faithfully provided countless hot, nourishing meals to families, first responders, volunteers, and those rebuilding their lives after unimaginable loss.

It has been an incredible honor for Sisters in Service to partner with such an amazing organization. Together we've delivered more than meals—we've shared prayers, hugs, hope, and the love of Christ with our neighbors.

** DISASTER SCAM AWARENESS **

As our community begins the long road of recovery following the flooding here in Kerr County, Kerr Together is working hand in hand with trusted local, state, and national volunteer organizations to coordinate relief efforts and connect survivors with safe, legitimate assistance.

But there’s a hard truth about disasters like this one: they attract people looking to exploit survivors at their most vulnerable. In the weeks ahead, you may be approached by individuals or companies offering to help with debris removal, tarping, repairs, or “volunteer” services. Before you sign anything or let anyone start work on your property, take a moment to protect yourself.

✅ Do Your Homework First
Verify who you’re dealing with before agreeing to anything. Legitimate disaster relief organizations expect, and welcome, this kind of scrutiny. If someone is reluctant to answer basic questions about who they are and who they represent, that is a red flag.

✅ Ask for the EIN/TIN
If someone tells you they’re with a VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), ask for their Charitable Tax Identification Number (EIN/TIN). This number lets you confirm they are a registered, legitimate nonprofit, not someone using the VOAD name to gain trust.

✅ Know What a Real VOAD Will Never Do
Keep these two rules in mind, because they are the clearest way to spot a scam:

• A legitimate VOAD will never ask you to sign a contract for volunteer services.

• A legitimate VOAD will never request payment or compensation for things like muck and gut, debris removal, tarping, or any other volunteer disaster assistance.

• If someone asks you to sign paperwork or pay up front for “volunteer” help, they are not who they claim to be.

✅ Watch for Pressure Tactics
Be especially cautious of anyone who:

• Pressures you to sign documents on the spot
• Demands payment up front
• Claims to represent a disaster relief organization but cannot or will not show proper identification
• Scammers rely on urgency and confusion. Slow down. Legitimate help does not require you to act before you are ready.

✅ When in Doubt, Call Us First
If you are not sure whether an individual or organization is a trusted recovery partner, contact Kerr Together before signing any documents or allowing work to begin. We are here to help you verify who is legitimate and connect you with vetted resources.

So grateful for the incredible volunteers of Sisters in Service who served alongside The Salvation Army today, helping organize and pack much-needed supplies for our hurting community.

Every box packed is a reminder that hope is alive. Our volunteers continue to bring love, prayers, smiles, and encouragement to those who need it most.
