**We remember. We honor. We support.** 💜🇺🇸

Today is National Purple Heart Day. Originally created by George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, the Purple Heart is our nation’s oldest military award. It is a decoration no service member ever sets out to earn, as it is awarded only to those who were wounded or killed in combat.

Behind every Purple Heart is a story of immense courage, a physical or invisible wound, a life forever changed, or a family left with an empty seat at the table.

Here at HCVC, we have the distinct honor of serving Purple Heart recipients right here in our community. You are our neighbors, our friends, and our heroes. We see the lasting impacts of your service, and we want you to know that your sacrifice is never forgotten.

To all the combat-wounded veterans in the Hill Country—and to the Gold Star families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice—we thank you, we respect you, and we are here for you.

Please take a moment today to reflect on the true cost of our freedom.

The Hill Country Veterans Center is proud to support Vietnam Veteran George Miller, whose home was severely impacted by the July 2026 flood.
