Please consider donating to this continuing education opportunity for our brilliant and beloved teacher, Rebeccas Burritt.
She explains:
A Rare Opportunity: Investing in the Artist Behind the Teacher
For most of my adult life, I have devoted myself to teaching classical drawing and design. There is nothing quite like watching a student discover their abilities, gain confidence, and find their own artistic voice. Helping others grow as artists has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Like many artists who teach, I have often placed my own artistic development behind the needs of my students and the practical responsibilities of supporting my daughter as a solo parent. While teaching has been deeply meaningful, sustained time for my own growth as an artist has become increasingly rare.
Recently, I was given a rare opportunity for artistic growth: a week-long immersive retreat with internationally recognized artist, author, and educator Juliette Aristides at New Masters Village in Colorado. The retreat focuses on plein air landscape drawing, figure drawing, and expressive draftsmanship, all grounded in the classical tradition that has shaped my life for more than two decades as a student, artist, and teacher.
When I reached out to inquire about financial assistance, the organizers generously awarded me a 65% scholarship toward both tuition and lodging. Their belief in my participation and willingness to help make this opportunity possible has been deeply meaningful.
I have accepted the scholarship and secured my place in the retreat. Even with that generous support, however, the remaining costs of tuition, lodging, travel from Texas to Colorado, and meals represent a significant financial commitment for me as a solo parent and working artist. I am reaching out to my community for help offsetting those remaining costs.
What moves me most about this opportunity is that it offers something increasingly rare in my life: uninterrupted time to focus on my own development as an artist. To draw from life every day. To learn. To reflect. To be challenged. To reconnect with the curiosity and sense of wonder that first led me to this path.
For years I have helped students make space for their artistic growth. This opportunity is a chance for me to do the same.
I believe that when artists continue to grow, that growth ripples outward into the communities they serve. The insights, skills, and inspiration I gain will not only enrich my own work, but will return with me to my students and the artistic communities I care deeply about.
My goal is to raise $1,900 to help offset the remaining costs of tuition, lodging, travel, and meals associated with this experience.
How the funds will be used
The organizers have generously awarded a 65% scholarship toward tuition and lodging, reducing the cost of attending from over $3,000 to just over $1,000. Funds raised will help cover the remaining retreat and lodging costs, travel from Texas to Colorado, meals, and related expenses during the retreat.
Fundraising Goal: $1,900
If you would like to help make this opportunity possible, I would be profoundly grateful. Whether through a donation, sharing this campaign, or simply offering encouragement, your support means more than I can express.
Thank you for being part of my journey.
With gratitude,
Rebecca Burritt
